Default Graphics PC Case Questionnaire

Hi, Please could you take the time to fill out my questionnaire (its an attached file) It is about PC case modding and is for my Graphics work at the college I am currently studying at in my final year. Thanks All, Christian
(would have this attached but it goes over the 19.5kb limit, its only 45k!!)
Target Market Questionnaire PC Cases

EDIT
Edit by Pug
Or, if you can't be arsed (like me) to do all the work for someone who should investigate their target market's requirements in a manner appropriate to using another's site to do so, just quote and reply here.
Re-formatted to make this easier for those who wish to bother. :)

Hi,

My name is Christian and I am studying Graphics - Product Analysis at college in the UK. My brief for this year is to address a niche in the market for a product that doesn’t either exist or where there is room for improvement. I have chosen to redesign a PC case. I would be grateful if you could spare a few minutes by filling out my questionnaire and helping me out in my project.

I have chosen to re-design a PC case and the questionnaire below is related to this, so please answer as honestly as you can, thanks again, if your stuck for the meaning of technical jargon, please don’t hesitate to contact me through e-mail.

Question 1: Are you male or female?

Question 2: How old are you?

Question 3: How many computers do you own, including PC and MAC?

Question 4: Which size of case do you prefer?

(Just put 1 in the box you feel is the best one for you, 2 in the next, which is of medium attraction to you and 3 in the box which you think is something you wouldn’t consider).

ATX (Standard computer case).

Extended ATX (large cases and server cases (excluding rackmounts).

Micro ATX (cubes and small cases).

Question 5: Please list the following categories in order of which you think is most important, 1 being the most important, 6 being the least.

  • Size - ATX case, Micro ATX case (cube) Extended ATX (server); basically which one would you prefer regardless of outer appearance?
  • Style – Aesthetics (What it looks like, colour, designs, artwork etc…)
  • Built in features – LCD display in case front, fans, screw less HDD (Hard Disc Drive) bays, Compatibility with other motherboards i.e. ATX, mATX, bATX, Extended ATX?
  • Cooling – Fans; Intake, exhaust, blowhole, critical places e.g. over HDD
  • Comes with PSU, bearing in mind it is usually of small – medium power PSU ranging from 300W – 400W.
  • Construction material e.g. Steel, Aluminium, Plastic, Fibre Glass etc…

Question 6:
How often do you upgrade your hardware?

Question 7: Do you water cool you hardware i.e. CPU (Central Processing Unit), GPU (Graphics Processing Unit – Graphics Card), HDD (Hard Disc Drive) etc…Or do you still use Air Cooling in your system?

(Just write YES into the box below that applies to the computer you own, if both apply please put BOTH or YES in each and answer following questions).

Water Cooling: Air Cooling:

(Question 7b only applies to people who use water cooling, if you use air cooling please continue to question 8. If you use both please fill out ALL questions).

Question 7b: Do you keep your pump, reservoir and radiator inside your computer case?
YES? NO?

Question 7b cont: If not, is it a case that you cannot fit it inside your case or is it because you achieve better results outside of the case?

Question 8: Have you modified your case in anyway, structurally? For example, adding a side window and/or putting graphics (artwork) onto the case are considered modifications, adding things like additional fans and/or cable ties is not.
Yes No

Question 9: What type of case are you currently using, alternatively, if you have many computers, what is the total known brands of computer case e.g. Coolermaster Wavemaster, Thermal Take Soprano VB1000, Lian Li 2100 etc…
1:
2:
3:
4:
5:

Question 10: What features and good design ideas that you may have come across do you think would make good editions to a PC case, bearing in mind; this question corresponds with the previous question of which size case you prefer?

Thanks for taking the time to complete the questionnaire, could you please save your copy that you have just filled in, then e-mail it back to me as an attachment as opposed to copy and paste because that destroys the format of this document and your answers will become illegible.

Thanks again, Christian

P.S. In about 1 year or so when I get the case back look for it on the O.C.C. case gallery as it will be posted there.

Asking questions is fine and dandy, but there's a better way to do it than this. check out some web survey software. Although it's fine to ask questions, I would have genuinely appreciated being contacted (or any of the mods) before you posted this as you first post. We'll lock this until further notice. Please send me a PM so we can straighten things out. check out www.uploadit.org or other free hosting sites in the hosting stickey in the gallery and you can put you survey up there, if you wish to collect single surveys.

Question 1: Are you male or female?
Yes

Question 2: How old are you?
Older than you, it would seem.

Question 3: How many computers do you own, including PC and MAC?
Umm, 5 or so

Question 4: Which size of case do you prefer?
Depends on the application and hardware
(Just put 1 in the box you feel is the best one for you, 2 in the next, which is of medium attraction to you and 3 in the box which you think is something you wouldn’t consider).

ATX (Standard computer case).
Best for general-purpose machine
Extended ATX (large cases and server cases (excluding rackmounts).
Best for main server/work rig
Micro ATX (cubes and small cases).
Best for HTPC and/or LanGamer

Question 5: Please list the following categories in order of which you think is most important, 1 being the most important, 6 being the least.

  • Size - ATX case, Micro ATX case (cube) Extended ATX (server); basically which one would you prefer regardless of outer appearance?
See above
  • Style – Aesthetics (What it looks like, colour, designs, artwork etc…)
See Chop Shop
  • Built in features – LCD display in case front, fans, screw less HDD (Hard Disc Drive) bays, Compatibility with other motherboards i.e. ATX, mATX, bATX, Extended ATX?
See rest of forum
  • Cooling – Fans; Intake, exhaust, blowhole, critical places e.g. over HDD
See last point
  • Comes with PSU, bearing in mind it is usually of small – medium power PSU ranging from 300W – 400W.
Can normally get better PSUs separately. I would rather throw away a cheap generic PSU than risk my h/ware with it.
  • Construction material e.g. Steel, Aluminium, Plastic, Fibre Glass etc…
Steel is cheap but heavy. Lotsa things have a plus/minus to 'em, depending on application.

Question 6: How often do you upgrade your hardware?

Progressively as I need to.

Question 7: Do you water cool you hardware i.e. CPU (Central Processing Unit), GPU (Graphics Processing Unit – Graphics Card), HDD (Hard Disc Drive) etc…Or do you still use Air Cooling in your system?
I air cool my radiators. That's about it. :p

(Question 7b only applies to people who use water cooling, if you use air cooling please continue to question 8. If you use both please fill out ALL questions).

Question 7b: Do you keep your pump, reservoir and radiator inside your computer case?
YES? NO?
Yup. I have one externally mounted rad. The others are all internal.

Question 7b cont: If not, is it a case that you cannot fit it inside your case or is it because you achieve better results outside of the case?
Bit of both... combined with the ability to comment authoratively on it as something I have tried.

Question 8: Have you modified your case in anyway, structurally? For example, adding a side window and/or putting graphics (artwork) onto the case are considered modifications, adding things like additional fans and/or cable ties is not.
Yes No
Lol! You're new here, aren't you?

Question 9: What type of case are you currently using, alternatively, if you have many computers, what is the total known brands of computer case e.g. Coolermaster Wavemaster, Thermal Take Soprano VB1000, Lian Li 2100 etc…
1: Chenming (Chieftec)
2: ClearPC
3: Lian Li
4: GlobalWin
5: AOpen? (Viglen)
Generic

Question 10: What features and good design ideas that you may have come across do you think would make good editions to a PC case, bearing in mind; this question corresponds with the previous question of which size case you prefer?

Editions? You'll hafta search for my mods to see my case edits.
(same goes for additions :p )

Honestly Dude. There's a wealth of info here. Just try spending some time looking.
I hear you thought us unhelpful? By your standards, what does that make you?

No, Not unhelpful, believe me I would cut to the chase but that kinda destroys the point of building up research which accounts for about 20-30% of our final grade, so this has to be included, I know it sucks but I have to show that I have bothered to ask people.

Is this an A-level or degree level project?

Does the flag underneath my Avatar not give you an idea?

lol. Ok, firstly, I can undertsand why other forums may not be so forthcoming in helping you, especially if you just registered, posted the questionnaire and asked for help. I think if you'd joined up and then asked if it was ok to post the questionnaire they would've been more helpful.

What are you actually hoping to gain from this questionnaire in terms of answers? as it seems pretty short to me for a piece of research.

I think you need some more specifics in there if you are trying to address a niche in the market for computer cases and I don't see how any of the questions ask address any insufficiencies with current cases that are available. Sorry to pick at it

Off Topic:

I think they have college and university in the US and they're both different things, but someone from the States would know better.

No I know this is not the whole research - This is one section of my portfolio of approximately 30-40pages. I just need this as a sort of Target Market research that leads into development. The questionnaire is broadly minded because it is designed to appeal to people who may not be to familiar with technichal jargon etc... but it is also designed for people who know lots about this sort of thing. I didn't want it to be overly complicated and the rest of my portfolio will deal with designs so I need some input from Pro's and general people?! I am hoping to gain a general aesthetic design and narrow down my ideas, i have several in mind but by people answering this I will know how to adapt and change my design ideas in order to comply with what people want?!

Marketing stuff for thermal take? WHat gave you that idea? I have nothing to do with thermal take lol? I'm only 17?! I don't think they would imploy me at this age and to post a questionnaire that has nothing to do with there company, also why thermaltake?
