I've been working back and forth with the developer of SpeedFan, Alfredo, and I've run some beta software called SCSItest. Amongst the raw SMART data that it dumped off my scsis were the drive's temperatures:
<---- Analyzing log page $0D ---->
Open device \\.\PhysicalDrive1 returned $0000009C
test 1 request succeeded (returned 90 bytes)
SenseInfoLength=0 - DataBufferOffset=80 - Returned data length=10
SenseInfo=
+000 $0D $00 $00 $06 $00 $00 $43 $02 $00 $1E
Temperature = 30
This drive can report its temperature (method 1)
<---- Analyzing log page $0D ---->
Open device \\.\PhysicalDrive2 returned $0000009C
test 1 request succeeded (returned 90 bytes)
SenseInfoLength=0 - DataBufferOffset=80 - Returned data length=10
SenseInfo=
+000 $0D $00 $00 $06 $00 $00 $43 $02 $00 $1E
Temperature = 30
This drive can report its temperature (method 1)

That's 30*C. Not bad considering 22*C water.

Pretty swank, but what's the temp where they can do all those bad things like lose all your data and then die?

I shall have my Silenstar dual core in 3 weeks, I hope.

Specs on the 10K IIIs list 5*C to 55*C as operating temperature. I'd say I'm good.

Nice work.

I'm rather dissapointed that Adaptec don't use the SMART monitoring on thier SATA Raid Cards. I can't even see the temp on their control panel let alone read it into anything of my own.

Sign up for the beta program on almico.com and download SCSI Test out of the beta's area. It's designed to do lower level probing of drives than speedfan is. Peruse the information for the word 'temperature' (you'll have to manually select all the data and paste it into notepad, pretty easy if you go to the top, hold shift, and keep hitting page down). the SCSI is kind of a misnomer, I saw it probing my SATA drive as well.
