I like that but a few questions to show my ignorance.
Its described a 1916 Ford. What parts does it carry over from a 1916 ford (or what parts do hotrods typically cary over) ?
The wheels seem to be directly mounted to the chassis with No suspension  please tell me I am wrong !
Am I right in thinking that these things are built to go in straight lines only ?
I do see the set of leaf springs but they seem to be used to mount the engine
Finally what is it with Americans and transverse leafsprings ???? I have not seen leafsprings on a car since the mark 2 escort back in the 70's and not in a real sports car since the early 60's.

^^^ Hot rods' years are typically based on the car that provided the majority of the sheetmetal. In this case, the bucket looks to be from a '16 "T".
Those double bars with Maltese crosses welded in them are what the suspension swings on, both front and back. Those half leafs in front are hung on the frame rails and spring the frontend, while the rear is sprung on a center arched transverse leaf spring. I don't see any shocks. It probably rides about as smooth as a bucking bronco.
Hot rods are about old schtuff... like leaf springs and straight axles, flatheads and juice brakes. Some guys will tell ya that if your suspension is independant and your brakes have discs, you car's a custom and not a hot rod. I wouldn't go that far, but it should shed a little light on things. B)
As for going straight... yah, usually. But a lot of hot rods handle real well and haul butt... 500hp and 1500 pounds is not unusual, in fact... common.

Most old hot rods in my view should ride real rouf and the reson being is that they are tuned for max grip per hp. In fact allot of hot rod technology has been caried over from the moonshine days when moonshiners outran cops in hot rods. And most of the time then they used a flathead v8 with beefy parts and about 300+hp. High hp hotrods as pointed out above are realy comon and because some of them look like they are bricks dosent mean they dont handle well.
Dam I wish they brought flathead v8's back as that could be awsome to put together with a nice turbo or supercharger and modern tech.
