Video Card upgrade

When upgrading a video card what should I be looking for? I want to upgrade AF1's video card. I have a 128MB ATI 9700 Pro, but am thinking of maybe just getting a cheap upgrade like the 256MB 9600XT. Is that a good upgrade or should I just save up for the much better card?

I don't want to spend a lot on a card because of the major dollars I'm needing to buy the GeForce 6800XT for El Diablo.

I've heard great things about the Geforce 6600GT's which are now available in AGP flavour, They outperform the 9800Pros on newwer games and are decent overclockers too.

take a peak. Theyre £150 in the UK so you should be able to get one even cheaper your side of the pond.

From what i've been reading the 6800 and 6600 cards share the same reference design so i'd guess the physical appearance is gonna be pretty similiar.
Kazou should know whether they'll fit on a 6600GT so i've posted a question in the AC gear thread to make sure.

[EDIT] Just had a closer look between a 6800GT and an 6600GT and they don't look the same :o .
The 4 mounting holes over the core appear to be identical but the component layout looks different and there appears to be more mounting holes on the 6800 cards; whats more the AGP version of the 6600 has an PCI-e to AGP controller chip on the front side of the card too.

From this i'd guess the Twinplex blocks are fine but the AquagraFX aren't - which is a shame, esp. if A.C. don't do a 6600 revision of the block.

Just read the review on Hexus and saw the difference. Hopefully AC will make a block for it. :wub:
