My next project is going to be a Matrix theme case. Any ideas for the project would be nice

Front bezel air brushed with the matrix letter things on it . More airbrushing with the slow motion circle effects. This would be cool somewhere.

Im thinking something with the blue pill and the red pills, maybe the power button and reset, maybe not something that looks like pills exactly.

Maybe a sentinel 120mm grill, somehow...

This guy did the pill button thing..

You could do worse than borrow some ideas from crymson sky's (this his one isnt it? or have i got my names confuzed) matrix mod... That embryo it mental.

Oh and i really like that centinal thingy.

/me looks forward to another great TGS mod

That model is great! I would recreate a scene from the movie and incorporate it into the parts themselves. In other words you can have the sentinal crawling on the motherboard and neo on the cpu or something. Maybe add mini cameras and use the video card back as a fake green screen (as if you were filming the movie inside of your case). Take a small logitech camera and place it inside and a 5" in front of the case showing that....

...and the list goes on and on :)

Scope, you are a craaaazzzy man. Very neat ideas.

If you go with the webcam/greenscreen, etc. Get some of those miniature DMMs in GREEN and set them up next to neo on the green screen... you'll see your psu voltage rails in the shot - front panel monitoring the hard way...

Focusing on scopE's idea, eliminate using case. Make a diaramma (http://www.armorama.com/modules/photopost/index.php?cat=522) incorporating Motherboard into your scene or hidden beneath it (floor). Make an enclosure around MB tray or utilize I-flex MB like crimson has done. That would be cool.

Nah. Go big. Get an old barber's chair (or dentist's chair) and integrate the computer around it. Make it look like one of the seats on the Nebukadnezar which plugs you into the Matrix. With the price of TFTs these days you can mounts a few on armatures in front of the seat, keyboard at the armrest. Some impressive tubing and lights, and presto. Ready to jack in, baby! B)

Whoa, Nexxo nailed it.... That would be TITS!

I'm starting my Matrix mod. Here's what I got so far.

I bought a case for $10.00

http://img94.exs.cx/img94/6679/case3.jpg

http://img94.exs.cx/img94/6833/case4.jpg

http://img94.exs.cx/img94/8717/face_plate.jpg

http://img94.exs.cx/img94/6024/wires1.jpg

Here's the Panel. I'm still working on the design for the window.

http://img94.exs.cx/img94/2946/Panel.jpg

And the supplies...Primer, sandpaper, flat green paint, then metallic green, and then the finish.

http://img94.exs.cx/img94/6087/primer.jpg

http://img94.exs.cx/img94/6514/sandpaper.jpg

Looks promising, you've made some awesome mods, I can't wait to see where you go with this one.

TheGreatSatan
20th November 2004, 01:41
I stripped the original paint off

http://img66.exs.cx/img66/1681/stripped.jpg

Then I applied the 3 coats of primer

http://img66.exs.cx/img66/9622/primed1.jpg

http://img66.exs.cx/img66/3596/primed2.jpg

Next came the green. 4 coats.

http://img66.exs.cx/img66/5300/green_1st.jpg

http://img66.exs.cx/img66/3078/green_2nd.jpg

http://img66.exs.cx/img66/5585/green_3rd.jpg

http://img66.exs.cx/img66/1764/green_4th.jpg

After about 36 hours I started the clearcoat.

http://img66.exs.cx/img66/4893/first_clearcoat.jpg

And that's where I am for now.

TheGreatSatan
21st November 2004, 01:29
I screwed up and had to strip the whole case again and restart. Here's where I am now. And I ran out of paint.

I was having problems with the green paint. There were spots that kept looking bumpy, so I scratched the whole look. I bought this cool paint that changes from green to purple depending on how you're looking at it.

I sanded the surface with 2000 grit wet dry sandpaper to prep the surface.
http://img121.exs.cx/img121/1554/mirage_prep.jpg

http://img121.exs.cx/img121/9976/mirage1.jpg

The first can is primer. 3 light coats of a nice flat black.

http://img121.exs.cx/img121/2671/mirage2.jpg

The next can came the color coat. 6 light applications.

http://img121.exs.cx/img121/9520/mirage3.jpg

At this point I'm not worried because the can clearly says that the color won't be at all obvious till the clear coat goes on.

But at an angle...

http://img121.exs.cx/img121/7611/mirage4.jpg

I need to let it cure for 24 hours before I begin with the clear coat.

TheGreatSatan
27th November 2004, 08:54
Now the painting is complete.

http://img131.exs.cx/img131/7811/paintdone.jpg

On to the panel. I started the sketch of what I'm gonna cut.

http://img131.exs.cx/img131/3623/sketch.jpg

The Sentinel is ready...

http://img131.exs.cx/img131/5808/Sentinel_pose.jpg

4th December 2004, 08:49
I worked on the Matrix mod some more. The I/O plate doesn't fit!?

http://img63.exs.cx/img63/1028/3d-IO_plate.jpg

At least the mobo fits.

http://img63.exs.cx/img63/2006/41-mobo_in.jpg

I'll be using a Sony DVD player.

http://img63.exs.cx/img63/4619/b0-matrixDVD.jpg

http://img63.exs.cx/img63/9713/75-matrixDVD1.jpg

Then I mounted the intake fan.

http://img63.exs.cx/img63/3342/70-intake.jpg

Next up was the power supply. Any idea what the thin green wire is for??

http://img63.exs.cx/img63/3592/4e-mystery.jpg

And to finish for the day, I painted the HD cage.

http://img63.exs.cx/img63/143/2c-drivecage.jpg

TheGreatSatan
7th December 2004, 06:49
I started dropping in all the components.

http://img35.exs.cx/img35/9184/j2gassembly1.jpg

And I've got this cool fan controller pyramid thingy...
http://img41.exs.cx/img41/5413/h8xfanpyramid.jpg

Next up is painting the front panel. Plastic primer done.

http://img41.exs.cx/img41/4236/a3zplasticprimer.jpg

I've had this fan controller lying around and I guess I won't use it here...
Maybe El Diablo.

http://img41.exs.cx/img41/3128/o3rfancontrol.jpg

TheGreatSatan
10th December 2004, 19:59
I finished painting the front

http://img9.exs.cx/img9/7658/greenface9ht.jpg

And I added the PSU.

http://img9.exs.cx/img9/35/equipped19ud.jpg

http://img9.exs.cx/img9/2760/equipped29km.jpg

Next, I added some mesh to the 3.5 inch bays. The sentinel will be ripping this up.

http://img9.exs.cx/img9/5920/meshbay7ju.jpg

biggiy6
11th December 2004, 05:18
It is looking ok. Paint the mesh and the optical drive they both look out of place.

TheGreatSatan
14th December 2004, 01:52
It really doesn't matter. I'm not keeping it.

TheGreatSatan
20th January 2005, 01:48
So I finally got around to doing some more. I sketched out what cuts I need to make.

http://img99.exs.cx/img99/2774/sketch9qs.jpg

Then I cut out the window. This was the first cut I made, so it looks pretty rough.

http://img99.exs.cx/img99/8999/1stcut3uc.jpg

Next I cut the parts where the Sentinel will be bending back. Plus I cut some other small holes for his tentacles to hold on to.

http://img99.exs.cx/img99/613/jagged4dk.jpg

Finally I tried to cut a 80mm fan hole, but my blade was too old and couldn't make it through.

http://img99.exs.cx/img99/6425/holesaw0dg.jpg

Starbuck3733T
20th January 2005, 02:48
Cutting fluid bro, cutting fluid. Try WD40, high viscosity silicon spray, or PenetratingBlaster (i'd use that in a well ventilated fire proof area too...) and tell me you're at least trying to do this with a corded drill or a drillpress. Doing that with a cordless drill = teh nuts.

TheGreatSatan
20th January 2005, 16:36
Corded. With extension cords if I have to.

TheGreatSatan
22nd January 2005, 17:06
Alright, more updates. I finished cutting up the panel and have bent all the pieces.

http://img16.exs.cx/img16/1923/shredded18ki.jpg

You can see some of the 1 and 4 hole puntures. I'll be using these points to show the Sentinel's steel piercing strength!

http://img16.exs.cx/img16/3733/shredded24wl.jpg

http://img16.exs.cx/img16/4139/shredded38jp.jpg

Next up was the black primer. So far I've only done one coat.

http://img16.exs.cx/img16/8462/shredded46fr.jpg

http://img16.exs.cx/img16/3432/shredded58fq.jpg

Here's the 80mm fan position. Anyone know of what grill would look good here?

http://img16.exs.cx/img16/2373/shredded65zg.jpg

TheGreatSatan
24th January 2005, 00:25
I finished painting the panel and addimg black to various areas including the rough edges to make the appear burnt.

http://img193.exs.cx/img193/9206/panel15ec.jpg

http://img193.exs.cx/img193/2890/panel25xc.jpg

http://img193.exs.cx/img193/2113/panel37zq.jpg

Then I added a little bit of the movie to the side. The Sentinel will be holding on to them too.

http://img193.exs.cx/img193/1226/panel42gx.jpg

http://img193.exs.cx/img193/6787/panel51jn.jpg

24th January 2005, 01:35

i like how you bent the edges back so it looks like something blasted though that hole

not to mention the bullet holes

Starbuck3733T
24th January 2005, 17:54
Man I'd hate to brush up against that thing or have it fall on my finger!

TheGreatSatan
24th January 2005, 18:28
I added the grill. For now I'll be using a hazard one.

http://img197.exs.cx/img197/2676/grill18jg.jpg

http://img197.exs.cx/img197/7535/grill26oy.jpg

Now, the exterior of the case is complete. I still have to stealth the cd drive and install the power button before I mount the Sentinel.

http://img197.exs.cx/img197/9709/grill37ag.jpg

http://img197.exs.cx/img197/369/grill45st.jpg

http://img197.exs.cx/img197/3707/grill59qi.jpg

Hopefully I can be done in about a week.

http://img197.exs.cx/img197/8629/lights53xk.jpg

Next up is to work on the mesh. I will be incorporating this into the window.

First I had to paint it.

http://img197.exs.cx/img197/8080/mesh19vy.jpg

Then I painted the mesh in the front bay. Like I said, the DVD drive will get stealthed.

TheGreatSatan
25th January 2005, 18:24
I'm adding it today....

You'll see.

TheGreatSatan
26th January 2005, 18:03
This project is DONE.

First I added the mesh window for support.

http://img186.exs.cx/img186/7171/window18ga.jpg

And then I added the Sentinel.

http://img173.exs.cx/img173/5264/window20en.jpg

And fed the Sentinel into the case.

http://img173.exs.cx/img173/9862/window37nn.jpg

I took out the biohazard grill and used mesh.

http://img173.exs.cx/img173/4741/newgrill1pv.jpg

And now it's finished.

What's the tank with the things coming out of it for?

Love the sentinal holding the drive bay covers. that's pretty cool.

How the heck do you resize your pictures? they look quite jaggied. Try bicubic resize, yours looks like nearest neighbor.

I must say turned out much better than I expected.....

I like it over all the mods you have done.

Awsome :o Definately your best one.

Agreed! Looks really cool and the sentinel weaving through it wokrs really well B)

TheGreatSatan
27th January 2005, 04:09
I did a little modifying on some other things bugging me. I made the claws ripping through the bezel and replaced the drive.

http://img175.exs.cx/img175/6889/modify19me.jpg

http://img175.exs.cx/img175/2430/modify26vp.jpg

And I cut a hole near the fan so the Sentinel would look as though it's puncturing the panel.
http://img175.exs.cx/img175/1479/modify45cp.jpg

I could add more to this project, but I don't feel like renting all 3 movies to get a feel of it. Plus, I couldn't figure a way of adding the digital rain.

Yaik
27th January 2005, 06:34
I notice that you have done many mods in a short period of time... what do you use all these PC's for?

TheGreatSatan
27th January 2005, 07:39
Nothing. I build 'em, post the pics, gut the cases, and build another with the same parts.

But I might be spending a bit more time with this one.
