My Setup:
Abit AN-M2HD v20 BIOS
AMD AM2 4000
2 x 1GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 Memory
ASUS EN9800GT Gfx or ASUS EN6600GT
LG SATA DL DVD RW Drive or Generic IDE DVD ROM Drive
Maxtor Diamond Max 8 200GB IDE HDD or Maxtor Diamond Max 23 250GB SATA II HDD
Antec Fusion II HTPC Case
I have been having loads of problems with Windows 7 and I think I have drilled it down to a SATA compatibility issue.
My original setup was based on the Maxtor IDE HDD and the LG SATA DVD RW with Windows XP MCE 2005, this has been running for a year or so now without a problem.
I then decided to install Windows 7 but the install kept freezing at various stages, the only fix was to remove the SATA DVD Drive and disable onboard SATA and use a Generic DVD Drive. This did the trick but when I re-installed the SATA DVD Drive Windows 7 still freezes.
I then bought a Maxtor 250GB Diamond Max 23 SATA II Drive and replaced the IDE HDD, I did manage to get Windows 7 Installed by disabling everything possible and using the 6600GT card but once installed Windows 7 keeps freezing.
Is there a problem with the Abit AN-M2HD SATA controller or is it possibly the Geforce Gfx Card?
Any ideas would be a great help, I am seriously thinking of going back to XP.
