MSCONFIG, or the Microsoft System Configuration Utility, improves Windows performance and can aid in troubleshooting your system.
These tweaks for your system are provided by Satan for Windows XP. Click the start menu, click run, type msconfig and enter.
Tweak One: Speed Boot-
1. Click the Startup tab.
2. Uncheck the boxes next to the programs you don't need to load automatically.
3. Select OK.
4. Choose yes to reboot your computer.
Tweak Two: Disable Scan disk-
1. One the General tab, click the Advanced button.
2. Click the box next to "Disable Scandisk after bad shutdown".
3. Click OK twice.
4. Choose yes to reboot.
Tweak Three: Speedy Boot-(Do not use if you have programs i that need to load in DOS)
1. Click the Autoexec.bat tab.
2. Uncheck all the items listed.
3. Click on the Config.sys tab.
4. Uncheck all the items listed.
5. Click OK.
6. Select yes to reboot.
Tweak Four: Floppy disk
1. Click on View, then choose Device Manager.
2. Click on the Performance Tab.
3. Click the File System button.
4. Click the Floppy Disk tab.
5. Uncheck the box next to "Search for new floppy disk."
6. Click OK 3 times total and then yes to reboot.
Here's another useful link. With this little program you can modify the Start menu to say whatever you like. Mine will be named Satan, instead of Start.

Deleting Windows junk to save 1Gb of space!
This guide lists folders and files in the windows directory that can be deleted; this has been tried in XP Home and XP Pro but also work in Windows NT and 2k.

Removing Fonts in 2k/XP speeds boot time!
If you have TONS of fonts installed your boot time may be suffering from it.... You can easily end up with a ton of fonts without even realizing it!

Prefetch Applications to make them load quicker!
If you have lots of RAM like I do then you can prefetch a number of applications by using the /prefetch:1 switch. This will load the application into your RAM for MUCH faster startup times. Be careful on how many programs you do this with because it'll eat up your RAM if you do it too much.
