My own laptop battery question...

Ok, I have a laptop battery question, too....may I join in the fun?

I want to be able to take my old and decrepid laptop with me when I go somewhere, but the thing only works when it's plugged in to an electricity outlet. I do have a generator at the place where I go to, but don't really want the noise or the cost of running it just to plug in one tiny laptop. Can I somehow hook my laptop to a car battery or something?

you could use an Inverter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverter_(electrical)). though be aware that the battery will eventually run out too so keep in mind that if you need the battery to start the car then you should make sure not to use up all the juice from the battery
