Okay, friend is looking for mass storage and the egg has this unit with free shipping (180) and it has a 30 MIR.

Anyone use one of these? The big concern though is the old system he wants to use is really that OLD!!!

Enermax EG465P-VEFCA 450W
ABIT NF7-S rev2 - Sempron 3000+ w/ Swiftech 462 & Tt Smart Fan
2 x 1024 F1-3200USU2-2GBHS (g. skill) PC3200
Visiontek X1950 Pro XGE - Turtle Beach “Santa Cruz”
ASUS 52X CD-ROM - TDK Indi DVD+880 DVD+RW
80GB Maxtor DiamondMax9 7200 IDE
160GB Maxtor DiamondMax9 7200 IDE

I've noted the primary concern as I've read about the drivers not even want to play with mass strorage devices!

I would give it a go, the MB and BIOS may be new enough to make it work.

Second option? Put the drive in an external case and connect it via USB 2.0, problem solved.

The third option? Use a drive overlay to map it but it is generally a kludge and things can go wrong. IT does work though and I have done this in the past. In fact, Serverelements does this with their NAS software and it works great. I have put very large drives on an old P200MMX machine in the past.

come to think of it, why not just get him to buy a new MB, processor and memory, all are cheap now days and this will preclude the issue all together.

Tried that didn't work........he could get a HDD slide by the wife but having to do a "total" rebuild wouldn't!

OhNooos... DeathStars... run ... run far away.
I don't care if Hitachi bought the brand from IBM or not... those drives are something I'd never trust my data to
