Hi,
I am getting a new laptop shortly. Found the perfect model but it uses 802.11b/g WiFi rather than 802.11n. Is this a major issue? Is 802.11n that much better?

B/G gets you about 54 to 103Mbps depending on the hardware and vendor.

N gets you up to 300Mbps with the same caveats as above.

You may be able to upgrade to N before you buy. If not, then you may be stuck, some laptop BIOSs look at the vendor info on the wireless adapter and if not correct will fail to even boot! This will force you to buy the network card from them.

Just a reminder when you upgrade to N that means you have to upgrade everything, N router, N wireless adapter and other wireless device should be using N. by default all laptops are using G ..

I don't think so its a major issue. It will work fine for you.

I think it is fine 54 to 103Mbps bandwidt is good.
