Hey,

I seem to be having this rattling problem I can't get rid of with the Eheim 1048 pump, and I've got two of them. Each of them produces the rattling. I did find quite a lot of info about rattling Eheim pumps but all of those start to rattle after a long period of use.

For me the noise started not long after I bought the first pump for my setup. It ran quietly for one session. After a few weeks and a power failure later I came back home finding my pump rattling.
I tried shaking the whole setup, switching the pump on and off, cleaning the components and changing coolants. After replacing both the radiator and the cpu block for a new system the noise remained.
I grew tired of it and decided to get myself a new pump together with a chipset block. After putting it together I started the new pump, also with a new type of coolant and it ran quietly as it's supposed to. Only when I restarted the pump a few days later the rattling sound started again. My face changed to quite a few different colours :-)

The components:

• Swiftech Apogee GT

• Aqua computer Twinplex XT DI

• Black Ice GT 240

• Cooling fluid is city water with Innovatek Protect Pro

I also tried different fluids:
• Innovatek Protect

• Aqua computer ACfluid

It’s mounted like this:
Pump on the bottom of the case attached to the bottom-side connector of the radiator, which is located 30cm above the pump.
The up-side connector of the radiator is connected to the CPU block, which is in its turn connected to the chipset block.
The chipset block is connected to the reservoir. The reservoir is attached directly to the pump, as it is made like that especially for the pump.

There are no bends in the tubing, which is 3/8”.

Welcome to WizD!

You probably want to get the upratred impellar - the rattling is probably due to the standard one slipping on the shaft. all you need to do is buy a new one, unscrew the front of the pump, fit the new one, reassemble and its done.

the tricky bit is finding the uprated impellar. they used to be about alot - not so much anymore.

Thanks for the reply :)

Is there any way you can describe that kind of impeller to me, looking for an "uprated" impeller doesn't yield much results, and I have no idea what to look for as extra property of that impeller.

Perhaps taking the old impeller out and adding some kind of water resistent tape around the shaft to stop it from slipping? Or will that be a very short term solution?

Thanks

I cant find one available either....

there is some information on pages 3 and 4 of this thread, but i dont think it will help your search I'm afraid. I'd say you would probably be best off emailing some w/c shops to try to find one...

Actually that thread is one in which I've posted most of my posts here in

Somehow I'm not really suspecting the impeller. I come to that conclusion because I have two 1048 pumps. The newest pump isn't one month old and hasn't ran without rattle for more than a day.
I also tested the oldest pump and tried it without reservoir or hosing in a water basin. It worked and didn't produce a single rattle.

Perhaps the pump has trouble getting all the water out at once, or the pump is too strong? I did connect the pump on the bottom of the case to the upside of the 2x120mm radiator. That's a rather large distance between the both components.

I did the tape around shaft trick, which seems to be working. No rattle at all. I'll see what happens when the pump gets restarted a few times.

If its not the impellor and the shaft mod doesn't hold out, I'd guess it was being starved at the inlet.

I just started the pump when I got home. Flawless startup without rattle. I don't think that ever happened before on my rig :)
So it would seem it's all good.

Thanks! :)
