For those that have been following along with my Project -=dBAmp=- http://www.wizdforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=848 you were probably wondering why I cracked a joke about sanding down brushed aluminum. Well, here is the project I was talking about ;)

Bill Owen (www.mnpctech.com) has been a stones throw away in most of my mod projects and this last summer, he spent time away from the "fam" to help me learn the ropes with painting. Every saturday night, he would come over and we would get a few hours of sanding, prep, and painting. Bill suggested the Kingwin 424 for my first try at metallics and clear coat. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-170-015&depa=0

The first night we got together we planned on sanding the brushed aluminum down and and prep it for priming. Well... that WAS the "idea" lol. I can easily recall 1 hour into the project and looking at the progress, thinking... "my goodness, this DUDE IS INSANE!" It was taking FOREVER to sand all the brushed aluminum down to paintable surface. Not only that... we onyl had one sander we were using. Anyhow... after about 5 more minutes of us standing there looking at our 5-6 inches of silly scuff marks... we started laughing and headed to Home Depot for a second mouse sander. It was more work than id care to do again unless it was my own case. Truely good times, eh Bill?

Alright guys... I wont chew your ear off... here are some glamor shots!

Thanks again for everything you taught me Bill. BEST mentor a Modder could ask for!

WOW! That is one of the best paint jobs I have ever seen. I wish I had the patience and skill to pull something like that off. :(

Awesome work. Did you do any other mods to the case? What kinda hardware you got in there?

Very very nice. I am working on some wet sadning right now, and it is tedious, but very rewarding when done well.

I was wondering how you sanded around the little icons for the power, and hdd's? They seem untouched?

I ran over mine a few times accidently, and just decided to sand them all off ....

:) Thanks for all the kind words... Bills teaching really paid off. I dont have any other mods for system yet... its actually for my girl ;) As far as the front panel... I took off every single item... the buttons, leds, etc etc. Thats the nice thing about the Kingwin... other than the brushed aluminum, its a good choice for painting projects.

PS... No components yet... it will most likely be a socket 754 system. Prob similiar to mine that Bill built for me 2 years ago...

Socket 754 3200+
MSI K8N neo plat
1 gig OCZ plat

Seriously man, you did one hell of a job on that :) Painting isnt hard if you can always remember when enough is enough and when to walk away ;)

Beautiful paint! I really need to find someone to teach me how to paint properly. Anybody know of any good how-to articles on painting? I want to get a nice finish on my next mod.

I typed into google :mirror paint finish, and i came up with a dynamite article on non metallics and metallic paint. Very informative.

I dont have it on this computer, but it is easy to find on google.
