Hi;

Not a lot of activity on this forum but I'll give it a go.

I have installed STEAM and have been playing an online game Day of Defeat all well for a week or so now.

Tried to play it last night, I get the splash screen for the game but then i get the BSOD message and the an auto re-start. I disabled auto re-start and read the replicated the error to read the message:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. if this is the first time....."
The STOP ERROR is STOP: 0x0000000A (0x000001C 0x805021A)
or something like that.

I had a similiar problem before with another game MoH Airborne, either I fixed it or it went away.

I have an Abit AN M2-HD (Which I have never liked) and an ASUS Nvidia Geforce 8600GT and Corsair XMS DDR Mem 2 x 512MB.
Windows Media Centre 2005.

Any ideas

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL indicates a driver problem and as its after the splash screen it looks like something to do with the graphics. I would look at the GPU drivers and motherboard drivers first.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL indicates a driver problem and as its after the splash screen it looks like something to do with the graphics. I would look at the GPU drivers and motherboard drivers first.
I already had the latest Nvidia Geforce Drivers installed for my ASUS Geforce 8600GT, but re-installed them anyway, I also updated the NForce Drivers for the motherboard but running Day of Defeat I still get the BSOD.

There is a BIOS update available for the AN-M2HD mine is on version 16, the BIOS i currently on 20, BIOS 18 corrects some problems with the

BIOS ID:18

Fixed nVidia 8800GT graphics card compatibility.
BIOS compiled date: 12/04/2007.
BIOS: m628a17.zip
Bios Issue Date:2007/11/19
Mirror Site: ASIA Europe US

However here lies a problem, my HTPC has no floppy so I'll have to use Abit's Flashmenu, but when I first built this machine the Abit BIOS sets some of the DDR2 speed and voltage settings incorrectly, so before I re-flash the BIOS I need to write down the settings.
Here lies another problem, my HTPC display is a Toshiba C3030 REGZA connected DVI to VGA the problem is when connected through VGA I can't get into BIOS the display just will not sync.

So I need to resolve this before I flash the BIOS - I tried everything last time and just gave up, at the time I had a spare 17 inch LCD that I could connect but now I've got a Mac.

Any ideas.

Due to the problems with my setup and entering BIOS I did some more Googling and found a couple of people had fixed similiar IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL by disabling startup entries.

So I just ran MSCONFIG disabled everything rebooted and hey presto Day of Defeat loaded up and ran no problems.
I thought I was going to have to delve deeper and use AUTORUNS.exe but no need.

Next step re-enable everything one by one in MSCONFIG until I replicate the BSOD.

I'll post back the results.

Aha spoke too soon, I think I was thrown off the scent of the problem as when I disabled all the startup I think Day of Defeat went into troubleshooting mode and disabled Hardware Acceleration, so I don't think startups were the fault.

Anyway after much playing around whilst I was in Display Properties/Advanced Settings I remembered the ASUS tab!! At which time I had an attack of Deja Vue, you see this is not the first time Iv'e had BSOD with this machine and last time by more luck than judgement I turned off ASUS Splendid which is one of two settings in the ASUS Tab and hey presto it fixed the previous BSOD problem.
Anyway ASUS Splendid was still disabled but ASUS OSD was still selected so I disabled that as well and Hoorah Iv'e been playing Day of Defeat in 1280 x 768 without a hiccup, well apart from getting killed al the time!!!

So looks like problem solved but I still don't know what's causing it?

Nice one Jonny. I hate trouble shooting BSOD's.
