So google yesterday released a beta of its new browser that has been given the name Chrome
http://www.google.com/chrome
I just downloaded it and installed it. I'm using it to post this message even.
Its fast! I like the recent pages thumbnails when you click for a new tab. Tabs remain separate, so that if one tab crashes you don't loose the lot. It also uses a very similar address bar like Firefox's awesome bar, which is bloomin' fantastic I have to say.
What are your thoughts?

Cheebs, I only just got it and I've been using it for a little bit. Had some serious problems with some Flash sites though.
I went into YouTube to test the video player and YouTube told me to get a Flash update. Went to the same page with Firefox 3 and IE7 and it works fine. So I downloaded the update... and it still didn't help. Need to spend some more time on it, and try it on more machines, but I'll get to that when I'm not at work!
However!!! I am very impressed with how little memory it uses. I love Firefox, but I'm doing my family tree and recently I had over 20 tabs running with research... Firefox was using 700MB of memory. Not so good. Going to stress test Chrome tonight me thinks!

Be sure to read Chrome's fine print (http://news.cnet.com/8301-17939_109-10030522-2.html)
I tried it and did find it snappy but WinPatrol caught at least two automatic update entries (one in Startup and another in Task Scheduler).
I hate programs doing things without my explicit permission, so I'll probably uninstall it and monitor its development through others for now.

I installed this and used it the other night and managed to bugger it up in about 5 minutes with my frequent jumping backwards in pages. Boo! It is nice and quick though :-)

hmm installed it last night on my lappy and it wouldn't play ball at all (vista ultimate 32) stuck it on my work box (XP Sp3) today, and i can't say it's that much faster than ff3 (which is totally kicking arse for me especially when weave (http://labs.mozilla.com/2007/12/introducing-weave/) works.
Anyhoo more info on what info it does or doesn't send to google here (http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/google-chrome-communication/)
And more stuff here (http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/common-google-chrome-objections/)
Still i like a lot of the ideas behind what they doing process/thread wise so i'll keep an eye on it with interest, but it'll have to be pretty special to get me off FF3

I wondered how it would play with flash, so I fired up Fantastic Contraption (http://www.wizdforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=8605) and it told me flash wasn't installed (it was), so I re-installed it by clicking the appropriate link but no dice.
I do like the premise behind some of it too but it definitely needs to mature some.
[edit]I decided to restart the browser (though it didn't ask me to) but I can't find the history... any ideas?
Ah, it's under Customise & control. Flash still not working though. <_<
