Hey guys :wiz:
I picked up my new bike today. Gawd im in love
CBR 600 F(X), 1999, fuel injected, < 10,400 genuine miles, mint condition. Few small scratches on the left engine casing where the previous owner dropped it on himself when he first bought it. Other than that its showroom condition.
Took it for a(nother) spin at dusk tonight. I couldn't resist taking a few quick pics with my phone. Sorry for the mediocre quality. I think I'm going to Hastings on it tomorrow, and if my Sis in law has her camera with her ill get her to take a few more with the sea as a backdrop :D

So, as some peeps had said, Its just like riding a bike, you never forget how. I can concur, after 13 odd years, I felt a little stiff at first, but soon settled in. I didn't stall it pulling away from the blokes house! I've had a fan_bloody_tastic day getting back in the saddle. Its blooming fast, and i didn't even get close to opening her right up, or hitting rev limiter due to nerves. One thing did strike me early on. Engine braking is a bit odd! hehe... I used to own a 2 stroke (LC350) previously, and that didn't have the slightest bit of engine braking hehe.

ferrrnah!
Having seen it I have to say she is a beaut!
I know nothing about bikes but it looks quick sounds great and has a very loud horn!
one thing to say mate
"weeeeeeeee!"
Colour me jealous. :-p
Nice one Chris. B)
Good time of year for it too. Watch out for front end slippage when the wet leaves start dropping in a couple of months though (yes, I obviously do speak from experience... of loose gravel too! :duh:).
If your Sis in law is snapping some, make sure we get action shots, eh? :wiz:

Action shots! Why didn't i think of that :duh: Didnt get a chance to get any more pics taken unfortunately. We were sitting very close the the lifeguard hut and there were plenty of official people milling about all day, so i couldn't get away with wheeling the bike next to the beach. Didnt want to have pics of it amongst loads of other bikes parked up in pebble dash ally (bike specific parking zone) hehe.
Thanks peeps :D
Yeah, great time of year to re-learn the craft, I agree. I used to ride the powervalve all year round. Had some hairy moments on that one Boxing day. There was some snow/slush on the road after a mid speed corner, didnt quite loose it, but stained my pants a little :D I did however loose it on a brand new front tyre once. Completely forgot about the need to scrub it in and went round a roundabout a little too slanted! *slide* *scrape*. Nothing to badly hurt other than my pride though
I used to be addicted to wheelies with my powervalve. That thing used to pop the front end so easily with its light but free reeving 2 stroke engine. No effort at all other than twisting the right wrist. What a buzz that used to be, but i think my balls have shrunk now so no fear of that any time soon on this baby. :D
Had a great ride to Hastings today... Clicky for the route if you're interested (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=Sevenoaks&daddr=Hastings&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=8.999588,19.072266&ie=UTF8&z=10) Its most of the route taken for the May day run held every year. Its a cacophony of beautiful twisty A roads nestling in Kents magnificent countryside. The more miles i get under my belt, the more relaxed and at home i feel on it. I'm starting to get used to the slightly different riding style required for a four banger, it makes you be ultra smooth on throttle changes, which is kinda fun, but getting it wrong makes you look a little silly when doing slow manoeuvres  Had to stab my foot down once today after shutting the throttle off to quickly turning into a road. I am getting the feel of where the power is across the rev range. Knocking down a couple of gears to squirt past cars was brilliant. I love the instant power this thing has when you are in the right gear. Why are there so many car drivers out there that seem to deliberately try to make the life of a biker hard? Several seem to get as close as they can to the central lines to make themselves harder to pass. It doesn't matter really as when there is space to do so its easy to get past them all the same, but i don't get the mentality.

Didn't learn to ride until in my early thirties and that was because I married a gal who like to ride. However did ride year round except when the ice and snow was down. As you fivecheebs did manage to catch some ice unexpectedly going into a 270 turn on a back road. Was able to plant the foot and hit some dry to stay on the asphalt. Other wise it would have been into the trees and down the bank into a stream. You could say I was pulling vinyl and denim out of you know where for a while.
While not my style of bike you've got a beaut there!! :thumb:

Crikey, my dad had one of those in exactly the same colour. He bought it brand new (T reg IIRC) and sold it shortly afterwards for the old bone shaker he has now.
Nice bike mate - ride safely. :thumb:

Hey Leeum, long time no see mate!
I'm still totally loving it :D Went to the Ace cafe (where they film fifth gear, no i didint see VBH) last friday night and saw peeps doing some really silly things in the traffic. Was great! :wiz: Had fun filtering through the London traffic, got overtaken by a pushbike whilst ring slowly for a mate to catch up who got caught by some lights, that was amusing :D
Also, went to newhaven port to see off the wife and kids who were going camping in france with some one of Aidens mates and his family. Left really really early, so the ride down there was slow, but man what a ride back! Lovely smooth sweeping deserted A roads, after the sun had just risen. I accidently went very fast again on a bit of dual carriageway. Ooops!

Reading jag's comment reminds me of the first time I tried to ride a bike, maybe that's why I didn't do it again 'til almost 10 years later!
Sometime in '70 a guy listed a Triumph or Norton (senior moment can't remember which) in the paper, sounded interesting. Went over to look at it and it was a beauty, it also had been bored and modded up from somewhere around 600cc to like 650. Got on the thing and was doing well in the guy’s front yard - until I cracked the throttle! A few flowers and bushes later I managed to stop without damaging me or the bike. He suggested I try something smaller which I did......in 1980!

I have never riden a full on motorcycle. I have driven regular bikes and mopeds before. I gotta say that a regular bike is way more fun than a moped. One day I will try to ride a bike. However I don't believe I have the coliognes to ride one with 600cc's.
As for cars, I think about 650hp to the wheels is a nice round number for daily driving.

The last bike I had before losing the ear was a Kaw 750 Vulcan. One of the riders I talked with a lot said he only got a bigger bike when his current one didn't scare him. His philosophy was simple - if it scares you, you'll ride more carefully!
The last power ride we had only had about half your required hp - 330. Kinda miss that Crossfire SXT too!
Now back to the thread topic....... WANT MORE PICTURES! :toast:

Dutch, Its pretty quick mate... Good for about 160! :o I've seen 0-60 listed as 2.8 to 3.3 seconds, either way its rapid. Its not considered an especially fast sports bike though in all honesty. Its considered to be a bit of an all rounder, capable of going quick, and comfortable enough to eat plenty of miles.
Jedi, maybe that bike you looked at was a Triton, hehe (http://www.inventivestudios.co.uk/thebikeshed/55triton.html) (Triumph Norton hybrid). Undoubtedly my favourite sports bike of yesteryear. Funny story though
I'll get more pics soon I hope. Got to think of a decent location...

As am I for a decent opportunity. Don't forget I use this machine every day, and due to all the rain we have had lately its as dirty as Da_Rude_Baboon's mind right now!
I might get a chance to give her some loving this weekend if all goes well....
