I have not got my fass-o-matic but have a question when I get the 5.25 mounting kit the drilled holes that hold on to the fass are placed in such a way that if you wanted the side barbs to point straight down they could not, they would be at slight angle. Why would this be???

Probably because that was the way they designed it and if for any reason, I have no idea. When I used my Aquatube in the 5.25 bay bracket, the side fittings didn't line face straight down either, they are at an angle. It was fine for me, I had the middle fitting in back for the inny and the middle side one for the outtie, and I'm an outtie. Perhaps the angle helps to channel the water or something

I've never heard of that concerning the Aquatube or Fass, but I know that Innovateks popular AGB O Matic ressy's have a sponge in them for doing just that.
