Hey guys... Bill Owen hooked me up with a poject box http://www.mnpctech.com/Projectbox.html

I started working on the project box today. Ive decided to toss a CMOY headphone amplifier http://tangentsoft.net/audio/cmoy-tutorial/ in there for music and gaming on the PC. I have plans to use some colored acrylic that I will sandwich between the front cover and back panel. I will also paint her up niiice-n-purty. Stay tuned for more goodies!

here is a shot of the amp... :D

Cool, this should be an interesting project. That acrylic idea is going to look awesome. I've been wanting to build a cmoy amp myself one of these days. Is that op-amp a double, or are you only worried about a single channel?

Seen the ones that fit inside the penguin mint tins? Not bad...

Thanks! This is my 2nd CMOY, they are easy as long as you have some patience. Soldering is hard for me cause I get "the shakes" real easy.

I am using Dual op-amp OPA2132PA. I might order the Burr-Brown OPA227 just to see if I can hear a difference. Who knows ;)

Starbuck3733T... thats how the metal looked once I sanded it down with my mouse using medium/light grit paper.

http://www.blackanddecker.com/productguide/ProductDetail.aspx?PID=2369&RHID=785&P=ProductDetail.aspx&ATT=AttachmentDetail.aspx&ACC=AccessoryDetail.aspx&ACS=AccessoySet.aspx&R=ProductListByBrand.aspx

It looks much more coarse in the pic than it really was. The primer filled in 95% of the little scratches. Those mouse sanders are really nice for taking factory paint of cases as well. However, DONT ever let Bill try and convince you brushed aluminum is just as easy to take off ;) jk Bill! "Ill post pics of what im talking about asap"---thats another project all together.

Just finished sanding the box itself and tossed in some primer...

More to come SOON!

PS... Ill give a high-five to anyone that can find me a "nice" 9 volt battery compartment. Im thinking of something with a latch on it. That way, you can just open it, take the battery out, and toss in a new one.

Thanks! -Vedder

I "REALLY" like the double battery compartment! What do you think?

Thanks again!

Yeah, saw some double compartments on the ones i looked at, they look pretty sweet with the draw opening - especially if you could then mod that into one of the end covers for the box making the battery extremely easy to get to.

What happens with this amp again if you use 2 x 9v battery? and what will the difference be between 2 x 9v wired in parallel to series?

Most people that want ear-splitting volume would wire the 9v in series. Also, some opamps like more voltage, so people usually use series for this as well... not sure of any particular advantage to parallel except i would suppose that you would have a slower voltage drop from 9v as the batteries go down perhaps?

how easy was it to sand down and paint the entire box? i was wondering because it looks like it would be hard to get into all those grooves,i might get some more cans of paint and do mine metallic blue, although i was thinking of getting it chromed, but i just cant decide!
