ok this is my third post ever so go easy please :-P any way. i want to add another hard drive to my pc. i currently have a 320gb hard drive and i want to add my 20gb. i know its sounds silly but i want to put all my pics, vids, and work etc on the smaller one and leave the bigger one for better things , ie games :-P any way i mounted my 20gb hard drive and then looked for the ribbon from the existing one, as thats how i did it on my last pc. i found that there wasnt one as the hard drive in this pc is a SATA hard drive. any way to cut the story short. i then found an old ribbon and attached it to the board as there is a IDE place for it. it worked fine but for some reason it knocked out my dvd/rw drive. and it said it could not start the dvd/rw drive. so i disconnected the 20gb hard drive and it worked fine again :-S sorry for the long story but any help or advice? and can i use a old hard drive with a SATA? thanks Hovis211

If your old drive has a jumper on it, try removing it (whilst the PC is off) then plugging it in and booting up.

This should set it as 'Slave' to your DVD/RW drive, which should now both work.

Just as an aside, a 20GB drive is likely to be quite old now - I don't think I'd be backing up anything important on it as drives don't last forever.

The old hard drive has to be SATA as well otherwise they have different formats.

Your posts look awfully spammy.

I agree with ỒĊBłůē about gsa_200620062006. In his other posts he seems like an advert for intel too.

A human can't make as many inane posts as that in as little a period of time. Banstick!
