I bought a Sony MDR-CD780 some years ago on my visit to Japan. Best heaphones I ever had. For Teamspeak etc I use a cheap headset which I lay around my neck.

aye you do need something for teamspeak, thats why i left off the zalman headphones but now they have a mic included i will def get some, you can get a lot of feedback if you have a mic and speakers so headphones is the only way to go

I've got Grado SR-60's for general listening duties and Senheiser's with a mic which I generally use for gaming. The Grado's sound phenomenal and are the best headphones I've ever heard the balance is absolutely perfect. The Senheiser's are pretty crap, but do the job for gaming and have a decent mic on them.

I don't see why the need for 5.1 headies, but each to their own.

in games such as call of duty it helps you hear where the enemy is more precisley(ie behind you) so it avoids humiliation of someone sneaking up behind you and bashing you in the head! grados are great earphones, would use them on a portable mp3 player but they arent exactly portable, but if they were foldable i would get some straight away, they look great too.spose you could always mod a mic onto them lol!

With only 2 earphones I can easily tell whether someone is behind me, not only that but I can also tell whether they are above or below me. IMO 5.1 headphones are a ridiculous idea, but as I said each to their own.
;)

Modding a mic onto the Grado's has crossed my mind more than a few times. It may yet happen.

Don't buy the Aiwa AT Pentium 90s,they sound good and all but after awhile they start to hurt your ears.I am ordering the Bose Triports, they sound great and are light as a feather, but a little pricy at 150 bones :P

I have some Maxell HP-2000's, they were about $20 at Staples I think. Best headphones I've ever had, closed cup design with great bass response and overall good sound. Unfortunately they broke...first the adjustable head pad (still has two bars over the top for structural support, but now it kinda uses the top edges of my ears for support), then one of the cups broke off. Guess my head's a bit too big, or I was a bit rough chucking them into my bag for travel to LAN parties. I'm currently waiting for the super-glue to dry. Oh, well, for $20, I really can't complain much, they lasted a while at least, and they sound good. By far not the best for gaming, or anything for that matter, but they are probably the best headphone for the money. No mic tho, I have a Labtec headset I can hang around my neck with the mic up for gaming. I am NOT an audiophile by any means, though...I use my motherboards onboard sound with Logitech Z-340's, and $20 is the most I have ever spent on headphones. I have thought about a set of 5.1 phones though...I saw a set for like $27 on NewEgg the other day.

I was wanting something with a mic for teamspeak, but the more I look into it the more I think I might get a decent pair of headphones e.g. Grado 60's or Sennheiser HD280's and a seperate mic.......

Any thoughts?

I had a Plantronics USB headset, but the phone quality was lacking while the mic is quite nice. I decided I wanted quality phones, so I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD 570's (paid $90). I was going back and forth from the Senns to the USB one to use the mic with my online gaming buddies, but I got tired of that, so I bought a Zalman stand alone mic. It works pretty well and I never have to take my Senns off. I'm looking to get another pair of Senns, probably the HD555's. Senns have velvet ear cushions and are lightweight, so they are comfy and I can wear them for hours upon hours and not have problems, even with my glasses.

/me huggles my cordless sennheisers ... RS65 if your interested but very expensive.

Batteries last 4(ish) hours from a full charge and the set comes with 2 batteries. The base station can charge the spare and the phones at the same time :)

I happen to be browsing ebay for a mic right now.

I would stay away from the Altec Lansings AHS-502. They're heavy as hell and hurt your ears after 3 hours. I know, I have them.

You wont be dissapointed by sennheisers whatever model. I won an auction for a mic earlier, tis a propper effort, not a computer specific model. I'll let you know how it goes. Only cost 6 quid, and the shipping was half of that lol.

There.

Oh, and guess what I Googled for...

"Zalman mic headphones" - the fourth result down.
It's always worth sticking the obvious through Google first, it will save you time, and itsn't dependant on one of us posting the link for you a few days later - if at all ;)
