View Full Version : Lord of the Rings Case Mod

TheGreatSatan

I will be starting a new project with the Lord of the Rings theme.

I bought a desktop case
http://i11.ebayimg.com/03/i/02/59/f6/4e_1.JPG

which I will remove the top off of and replace with plexi glass. Then I'll frame the entire case with:

http://i23.ebayimg.com/01/i/02/85/9b/aa_12_sb.JPG

I'll then add the LOTR theme to it. Let the modding commence.

Cool!! What type of minatures will you be using? Would love to see any concept designs of this!:D

Looks like Fun!

TheGreatSatan

I don't know about miniatures yet, because I looked into it and they're expensive. For now I'll work on scenery, then I'll mess with the people.

Mold them out of Super Sculpey Clay.

jedimas729
11th October 2004, 04:10
Yeah super sculpey is less than $10 for a pound at Michaels arts and crafts stores which are located every where!:D

It requires more artistic talent with sculpting than what I have :(

If you didn't know, which i'm fairly sure you already do, they produce all the Games Workshop miniatures.

They're certainly not cheap - especially if you want a whole orc hoard or something but i know they did a range of Lord of the Rings stuff and the miniatures would be about the perfect size for this project...

Thats the US Lord of the Rings site if u fancy a peek!

[EDIT] Imagine one of these as your centre piece!!!

Oh no... it's happening again, The first Lord of the Rings film was responsible for me getting back into warhammer and going and speding £80 on stuff thats just sat there ever since!!

I've never bought any of the LOTR stuff, just standard Warhammer - must of spent well over £2000 between the end of junior school and when i stopped messing with the stuff towards the start of sixth form (aswell as the few times i've been lurred back since). scary. :h34r:

TheGreatSatan

I've started.

Here's the castle and case.

http://img46.exs.cx/img46/3438/castle2.jpg

http://img46.exs.cx/img46/5526/castle3.jpg

I'll be putting these corridors within the case. Around the mobo and drives.

http://img46.exs.cx/img46/8223/castle4.jpg

Prepping to add primer.

http://img46.exs.cx/img46/8886/prime1.jpg

After I added the white primer.

http://img46.exs.cx/img46/4010/prime3.jpg

The case came with a 250 watt PSU. Where the hell is the ATX connector??

http://img46.exs.cx/img46/2627/PSU.jpg

And to close this post. I bought a blacklight poster of Satan from Paradise lost. I hung it in my work area.

http://img46.exs.cx/img46/5069/poster8.jpg

TheGreatSatan
23rd October 2004, 04:20
I used Fleck Stone spray paint on top of the primer.

http://img19.exs.cx/img19/3333/rockcase1.jpg

Then added black gloss highlights to match the case to the walls nicely.

http://img19.exs.cx/img19/9349/rockcase2.jpg

http://img19.exs.cx/img19/4918/rockcase3.jpg

And I put together some of the walls so you'll get an idea of what the interior will look like.

Wow, that's pretty darn creative. I had a Playmobile castle once, but I gave it to the kid who move dinto my house when i moved out.

That dragon looks a lot like my pewter Red Dragon of Krynn, from the AD&D Forgotten Realms adventure pack (I used to be an avid player). Good luck anyhow, I really can't wait to see MORE! ^_^

That fleck stone paint looks really cool and goes really well with it :D

Can't wait to see the finished castle!

Hmm...nice AT PSU. I just realized that you're using an AT case. Looks like its gonna be fun cuttin it out to accept an ATX mobo.

I like the way this mod is going, very cool idea.

TheGreatSatan
24th October 2004, 03:25
I'm gonna be using a micro ATX mobo and will be installing my own mobo tray

BuffaloBoy
24th October 2004, 03:46
Cool. Can't wait to see how this one turns out, it's looking pretty good so far!

TheGreatSatan
24th October 2004, 06:12
I set up the castle and case to see how it will look.

http://img61.exs.cx/img61/1874/setup1.jpg

http://img61.exs.cx/img61/7403/setup2.jpg

Since this is an AT case, I cut out some sheet matal to mount the mobo to.

http://img61.exs.cx/img61/8752/mobotray1.jpg

Then I prepped the plexi glass for cutting.

http://img61.exs.cx/img61/4590/plexicut.jpg

And I dropped the plexi into place.

http://img61.exs.cx/img61/6050/plexi_in.jpg

Finally for the day, I put parts of the castle walls on top to show you all what I'm going for.

Very cool! Should look great when it's finished. Are you going to paint more detail into the walls or are they staying like that?

I haven't decided yet. I don't know if I am going to keep the mod after it's done, sell it, or take it apart and give the castle to my daughter. If it turns out well, I will submit it to a couple of magazines. And if one of them publishes it, I will easily be able to sell it.

TheGreatSatan

I set the mini itx mobo in. Small eh?

Then my PSU

Good work satan. Are you going to leave the top plexy sheet as it is, or are you going to make it look like stone like the rest?

fillip
1st November 2004, 12:32
Yeah, the plexi on it's own looks a little plain

TheGreatSatan
1st November 2004, 22:42
I'm gonna make it look like stone with grassy areas.

TheGreatSatan
9th November 2004, 08:04
I worked a little bit more on my LOTR case. For the plexi layer on top of the board, I want to create a bit of a courtyard look. First I sanded some of the plexi, to roughen it up a bit.

http://img129.exs.cx/img129/4154/sanded1.jpg

Next was to get started on adding the grass.

http://img129.exs.cx/img129/3909/glue_grass.jpg

Then I added the glue.

http://img129.exs.cx/img129/4072/glue1.jpg

And I spread it all out.

http://img129.exs.cx/img129/5362/glue2.jpg

And there you go.

http://img129.exs.cx/img129/4247/grassy.jpg

Finally I wanted to add a "road", so I sanded out the area for it.

http://img129.exs.cx/img129/2548/sanded2.jpg

Then used primer and some of the same paint as I used for the case.

http://img129.exs.cx/img129/8919/road1.jpg

http://img129.exs.cx/img129/3118/road2.jpg

All I'm waiting for is the Fell beast, which I having shipped from the UK.
