Here she is my tribute to the Devil, project EL DIABLO. http://img16.exs.cx/img16/8559/coop.jpg

This is actually an old Mod still in progress. Whenever I seem to have some free time, I always think of something else to work on. I need to complete this thing. It's a big case that used to be a rackmount. I bought it on eBay for $10.00, and it weighs 40+ pounds empty!

http://img15.exs.cx/img15/8056/original2.jpg

http://img15.exs.cx/img15/157/original1.jpg

First I thought that it would be cool as a black case.

http://img15.exs.cx/img15/8923/diablo_blk1.jpg

http://img15.exs.cx/img15/6238/diablo_blk2.jpg

http://img15.exs.cx/img15/9230/diablo_blk3.jpg

http://img15.exs.cx/img15/4800/diablo_blk4.jpg

http://img15.exs.cx/img15/452/devilfan.jpg

But then decided that a redish/black case that resembled lava with hot and cold spots. Like something out of Hell.

http://img15.exs.cx/img15/2865/redpaint2.jpg

http://img15.exs.cx/img15/2431/diablo7.jpg

http://img34.exs.cx/img34/3457/side7.jpg

Then I wanted to do something special with the top. So I labored for many days and cut out my logo.

http://img15.exs.cx/img15/582/000_0001.jpg

http://img15.exs.cx/img15/9300/case_top.jpg

Next was what to do with the front of the case. The original design was too ugly and being 1 mil thick was too hard to cut. So I got rid of it and went with plexi. I decided that I would use two layers to support the drives that would be mounted through them like...

______CD drive___|

..........| |

http://img16.exs.cx/img16/1489/plexi.jpg

http://img16.exs.cx/img16/546/glass_in.jpg

And I wanted to add two fans to the front with custom made fan grills.

http://img16.exs.cx/img16/9742/pentagrams.jpg

They will be backed with two orange 80mm fans with 4 LED's each.

http://img16.exs.cx/img16/5318/glass4.jpg

http://img16.exs.cx/img16/5864/glass5.jpg

That's all I have done so far. As of today I already have the following parts.

Gigabyte K8NNXP-940 motherboard
AMD Athlon FX-51 socket 940
200GB Seagate 7200rpm 8MB cache
Custom Danger Den Water Cooling set up
Hard drive cooler with LCD display
Enermax Noisetaker 600 Watt PSU

Still need:

DVD drive - Anything, really
Video Card - X800 XT or better
Memory - At least 1GB, if not 2GB
Sound card - 7.1 Audigy gamer
Speakers

This mod is looking really good. I remember it from CMG.

Did the PSU cables come wraped? (off topic I know)

Thats great we use a bit shorter one like that for a ftp server at lans they are super heavy, I never thought of modding it though LOL.

Yes. From www.frozencpu.com (http://www.frozencpu.com)

I did some more work on El Diablo.

I added risers to lift the board so I could feed wiring underneath it.
http://img90.exs.cx/img90/1112/risers.jpg

After the diamond plate steel was inserted I put in the standoffs.
http://img90.exs.cx/img90/103/standoffs.jpg

Next I installed the mobo.

http://img90.exs.cx/img90/3475/mount.jpg

http://img90.exs.cx/img90/9278/rear_mobo.jpg

Then I found a problem. The cable won't reach! Do they have extensions for this?

http://img90.exs.cx/img90/9535/short1.jpg

Next, set up water-cooling. I'm missing those metal fasteners for the hoses.

http://img90.exs.cx/img90/3545/water_cooling.jpg

And my RBX...
http://img90.exs.cx/img90/5196/RBX.jpg

Then a drew the lines for cutting out the DVD drive and the HD cooler
http://img90.exs.cx/img90/3379/bay_lines.jpg

And finally, I added some mesh. I will be putting it between the sheets of glass and painting it to match the case.

Looking good, though that mesh looks a little weak (structurally) up front.

I have not seen ATX12V extensions, but they probably exist. If not, you can get (or have someone get/make for you ;)) the mini-fit connectors to do it.

Since it's gonna be under your mobo anyways, why not cut up the wires and splice some extra length on there?

I have a way cool mod idea for an acrylic panel, that is a little bit devilish ^_^

Here is what i am going to do...someday, when i make this case.

Get yourself a page from a latin exorcisim, print them backwards, and etch them into the back of the plexi. I am going to have a knight kneeling along with the words in there somehow.

TheGreatSatan

uh??

Anyway. I lifted the board on an angle, connected the 12 Volt, and then layed the board down.

http://img70.exs.cx/img70/28/12volt.jpg

I ran into a problem cutting out the drives in the plexi. The glass broke in half! Sooo, now I'll be doing a plexi/sheet metal combo. Fan holes cut.

http://img70.exs.cx/img70/6574/metal_holes.jpg

http://img70.exs.cx/img70/3011/diablo_metal.jpg

I got my new 3.5 bay reservoir!

Yesterday, my dremel died. Here's my new one!

http://img76.exs.cx/img76/9738/dremel.jpg

I started on the front of El Diablo by cutting out the drives.

http://img76.exs.cx/img76/1507/face19.jpg

Then roughing it up to paint.

http://img76.exs.cx/img76/1484/face20.jpg

Next came the primer.

http://img76.exs.cx/img76/6940/face21.jpg

Then the red.

http://img76.exs.cx/img76/3778/face22.jpg

__________________________________________________ ______________

Then I started on the watercooling test setup. I used a mobo while it's still in the box. Here's my reservoir.

http://img76.exs.cx/img76/6782/watercooling1.jpg

And the whole goofy setup.

http://img76.exs.cx/img76/3961/watercooling2.jpg

It's Alive!!!

http://img76.exs.cx/img76/8074/watercooling3.jpg

Is this stuff good enough?

http://img76.exs.cx/img76/9274/watercooling4.jpg

After about ten minutes I realized that my radiator leaks.

What can I do to resolve this?

http://img76.exs.cx/img76/8740/watercooling5.jpg

That looks like a black Ice Pro. If it is, you may have puncutred one of the water channels when installing the fan. The way that the BIP is designed, the water channel passes right under the threaded screw hole. If the screws you are using are too long, they'll poke right through the channel. If this is the case, then unfortunately you'll probably need a new rad...

Starbuck3733T

If you can get to where the hole is and take it down to bare metal, jbweld should patch it up nicely.

I put the new front panel on for some quick pics.

I mounted the CD/DVD drive. I still have to mount the HD cooler in the front.

http://img100.exs.cx/img100/4784/front_done1.jpg

http://img100.exs.cx/img100/5663/front_done2.jpg

http://img100.exs.cx/img100/7039/front_done3.jpg

Then I put in the floppy drive. This is going to be a media center, so I threw in a floppy that I might never use.

http://img100.exs.cx/img100/9138/front_done4.jpg

I will be making a back window too from plexi glass.

http://img100.exs.cx/img100/8829/front_done5.jpg

Almost there...

This is going to be a media center...

So your kids are going to be watching care bears dvd's on this most unholy device?

TheGreatSatan

Damn skippy.

Starbuck3733T
3rd November 2004, 16:58
Media center good. Hows the noise level.

TheGreatSatan
3rd November 2004, 17:29
I'm not done, but as of right now it'll have four 80mm fans and the 120mm fan on the radiator. the case is about 1 mil thick so it covers noise real well. I guess we'll see...

Sinner
3rd November 2004, 21:44
do your kids call you "The Great Satan" or daddy? Cause there is just something that doesnt sit right knowing your kids will watch Carebear's with that satanic box right in front of them.

btw....CAREBEARS KICK ARSE!!! I use to watch them when I was a wee tike.

I'm almost done on the paint job. Soon I'll have that car like finish and a guide posted on my site on how to do it with spray paint.

Look at that reflection!

Whats with the darker spots on the sides, it looks like it went on to thick in certain spots so it kind of throws the paintjob.

I have cancelled all work on this mod. It was getting way too expensive. Origianlly it was set to use the FX-51, but by the time I ever finish it, the FX-60 will be out! So nevermind on the worklog. I recently sold my FX-51 and my board is for sale too.

Yellowsnow17
7th January 2005, 20:38
Sorry to hear about that. This mod and the UFO mod were my personal favorites of yours. Good point about the FX-51 though. They are already up to the 55 I think...

biggiy6
8th January 2005, 04:07
Yea the FX-55 is out right now but there are already talks about a next gen FX in the works.

TGS why not just put a cpu & board in EL Diablo that you can afford? Find a cpu that you like and slap her in and call it finished.

TheGreatSatan
8th January 2005, 19:41
With the Matrix going on I can't afford it and I really don't need a 4th working system around.
