View Full Version : Purple and Black Glowy Rotatey Thing

About halfway through my initial Lasik consultation I walked into a room filled with various eye devices. They had all sorts, from measuring pupil and cornea size and thickness to producing a perfect 3D map of the eye. There was a really nice hypnotic looking "thing" in the middle, connected to a computer with a sweet 19" Samsung LCD and terribly old Gateway Desktop. It was like looking into one of those orange cones they use to mark roadside construction, from the wider bottom out through the narrow top. The first band was black, and the next was purple, then black and purple until the last black band widened and flushed into an inch wide hole. I'm not sure if the lines rotated or not, but they did give off a very bright and eerily pleasant glow. While my head was comfortably pressed onto the holding devices I stared into the blinking red light at the end for a minute or so and then it was over.

Now, I want to create whatever that thing was. Maybe as a design on a side panel or in the empy space in the bottom front of my case, as long as I end up with something closely resembling what I saw. I'm sure the original costs more than I have, so that's never an option.

Here's what I want: help to figure out how to make something with as many non store bought "mod" parts. Where would I be able to get one of those cones, or something closely related? What could I use to make the black and purple lines appear 3D and not flat? Any ideas welcomed. ^_^

My initial idea is an actual cone cut to size, next would be hard, and all I can think of is that flat EL tape in purple. For black I suppose electrical tape might work. Hrmmm...

I'm gonna ask to take a picture when I go back for my steroid eye driops tomorrow, the physician forgot to write my script and then left, so I got my valium and waited for 20 minutes before giving up. Damn doctors and their two hour lunches. If they let me I'll make a minute long movie, ooh, glowy...
