Hi there.

Just thought I'd say hello and introduce myself.

I'm from Manchester and I have interests in programming, overclocking, adsl tech and running LAN parties.

If you've got any hardware questions you want incorrect answers to, come to me :p

I, too, would like to introduce myself.

I'm Nate, a senior college student at RPI. I'm a mechanical engineering major working on getting my degree in energy systems (and hopefully, a little something in renewable energy :) )

With that said, I work in two of the machine shops on campus as a Teaching Assistant (TA). Now...this is where the fun is. I teach welding (GMAW/MIG/Plastic), as well as useage of mills, lathes and any of the other basic manual machines (drill presses, etc). This summer I'm teaching rapid prototyping (for those who are curious...stereolithography, 3D printing, and fused deposition modelling), as well as laser cutting/engraving with a 40 Watt CO2 laser. Fun stuff.

I've got two current projects in mind right now. The first being slightly modifying my Aspire X Q-Pack (mATX) and redoing the paint on it (I'm getting kinda tired of the dull aluminum/black paint finish). I'm thinking blue or red. I still have a little time to decide which to do. Number two is my stock Thermaltake Armor case, which is just itching to get chopped and painted. Hmm...with all of the blue fans I have in there, I'll probably go with a royal blue...

*thinks*

If that case is blue...maybe I should do the Q-Pack red... ^_^

Ok...the final project (well, maybe not final) is a case I'm looking at building from scratch. I'm hopefully going to find an inexpensive (but sturdy) aluminum or steel motherboard tray and work from there. Ultimately, it will be a HTPC case with the same style as my Pioneer reciever and 101 disk player. Sometime I'll get around to CADing it up. I've got nothing but a bunch of drawings/layouts of how the case is going to be set up. Man, I'm going to have fun with that.

Oh...and one final bit. Since I'm a TA, and a student, I've got access to a lot of machines on campus that one might not have in a personal shop, including, CNC 3-axis mills (40 & 20 HP HAAS VF2/VF1/Minimill), CNC lathes (one learning, one CNC only), CNC waterjet cutting, laser engraving/cutting, as well as more industrial machines that I probably won't need (plastic injection moulding/the RP machines/etc). Of course there are always all of the hand tools in shop that I'll be using anyways... :dremel:

So, hello out there! I hope to be around for a while to show my successes (and, most likely, where things go wrong :-p) I look forward to all the wonderful tips and ideas from everybody

Hehe. Thanks much :)

I'm pretty lucky that my school has really good resources. Our Haas Technical Center (part of one of the labs/machine shops on campus) has most of the machines on loan from the manufacturer. We get to use them, they get to get their names out there.

I got myself in a good position by starting to work for RPI as a TA. It's opened access to a lot of technologies only used in specific classes. I get paid to work and I get to use the big fun goodies, it's a benefit in both areas.

Like my modding and watercooling, nothing too extreme yet but starting to get the urge to build something from scratch.
May be able to add something useful, may not be able to but hey ho, here I am :D
Also a skater and surfer and just about any extreme sport that goes.

<<<< Picks Jaw up off floor................hmmm So that is where I need to enroll at? :D WEll with all that hardware and a imagination to match I can't even begin to fathom what you could do.

if I had access to even a small amount of that kind of machinery!

You could probaly make a little cash on the side doing "extra credit" work for folks ;-)

The only thing is...with any of the student machine shops, you can only do personal projects. Nothing for profit. They've got a specific policy that everything like that goes to a different machine shop on campus.
However...personal is plenty good for me :-)

The thing is, a lot of these machines are full sized industrial machines, which a person would never need in their personal shop. I mean, who'd need a $140k CNC vertical mill? The only time you'd really need something like that would be for mass production...

I'm still waiting to see one of the demonstrations when the tooling guys come around. I hear the chips hit the windows like a machine gun.

Hey, I figured I should introduce myself since I'll be hounding you all for help on my upcoming projects. I just joined your site today but I've been following it for a few months now. Reading this site and all your posts is really what has gotten me into modding. I'm located in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. If no one knows where that is, it's an island on the east coast of Canada, it's actually the most easterly point in North America and where Columbus landed when he discovered the Americas. I'm a professional photographer by trade and I'm also studying to become a draftsman, I figure that will come in handy when I need to sketch up a part in AutoCAD. Anyways I just wanted to say hey and I look forward to being a contributor to the site. Thanks,

I'm late too. My name is John and I'm a modder from the Denver, Colorado USA area. I've been doing computers and software since before they invented personal computers. When I first got into computers they were water cooled monsters the size of small cars. H2O in the 60s, H20 in 2006 go figure.
I am a P4 addict. Love that processor and OC aircooling. I have retired from the IT industry, went fishing, went retail, and came back to computers as a consultant. I make acrylic protein skimmers like a WC res for high end salt H2O reef tanks. Built my first one for me and now I have sold several.
Mods I've done are usually transplants using eMachine motherboards. My daily driver is an iMachine - emachine in a teal imac case with LCD instead of CRT. I have been working on 1 of 1 my lifesize female Borg mannequin for a year, another P4 transplant. My acrylic fun lead to my acrylic cube case using a Micron PCI-less slim client P3 motherboard 7" X 9" X 9" with slim dvd 250Gb Maxtor and Linux with MythTV. I am not in you guys league for talent but you guys KNOW everything.

Where to start... Well, Hello, I guess!

Now for a little about me: I'm a 17 year old PC enthusiast from Minnesota. I've always had the itch to do some modding, and having recently come by a little bit of extra money and free time, I've decided that now's the time to jump right in. I've had very little mod experience, but I know my way around power tools, woodworking, metalworking and the like fairly decently. Hopefully you guys can help me fill in the rest. Been browsing these forums for a few weeks now, and I like what I see!

So until I -do- have free time, I get to live vicariously through ya'll (I'm originally from Texas..Austin actually, and I've seen the Austin Modders (http://www.austinmodders.com/) site a few times, and am proud to be from there. ;)

Hey all, I joined about a week or two ago and didn't see the spot to introduce yourself! '

I was too distracted by all the awesome projects.

Anyway, I'm 30, fast approaching 31 and not liking it  I have always enjoyed computers and have been using them since I was barely in double digit ages. Did some mild (read, very mild) programming in middle school on the Apple 2e, played a lot of Ultima too. Drifted out of computers for a while in high school as girls and cars got my attention.

I got back into building computers in 2001 as I saw no point in shelling out $2000 for a bottom feeding Gateway machine every 2 years. From there, I got into overclocking, which led to watercooling, which has led me to custom case mods. I have always been proud of how nicely built the componants of my systems are, and it's a shame to hide that in a plain biege or black case.

I have 7 years experience in the auto parts and mechanical repair business, and have been working as an adjuster in automotive insurance repair for the last 5 years. I am no stranger to working with my hands and customization playing with old cars.

I have been married to my loving, and mostly understanding wife for 4 years, we have 3 cats, we lost our youngest cat in July to a genetic heart defect which was really rough on both of us as she was our baby, only 4-5 years old.

So here I am, to learn from those with more experience and to try my own ideas out........

Ooooh. I didn't see this forum! :D

Howdy, I'm Hayden, a 16 year old from Western Australia. Just got into modding a couple weeks back and haven't been able to take my eyes off all these project logs and such.

I've also since started modding an old desktop chassis into an uber LAN server - working on the HDD Rack at the moment. (It'll be able to support up to 10 HDDs) I've also started making plans for a serious mod after I've completed this small one. It'll be a completely custom case - I started modelling it in 3dsmax yesterday mainly for working out dimensions, ie. how big I'll have to make the case to get it as small as possible but still be able to fit exactly what I want in it.

So yeah, I'm pretty busy at the moment - coding an entire CMS for my online blog/portfolio aswell as modding this desktop chassis AND planning for a future mod. Ah well, it's holidays - I have all the time in the world! :D

Well, where to begin...

I've been in the PC modding arena for some time now, under a few usernames, mostly from necessity, but sometimes cause I forgot my password...

Been watercooling about 4 years, played with most of the big-bore stuff available, built a lot of systems, modded a lot of stuff, and generally live to blow up stuff.

I used to be active on the old PimpRig, writing commentary and messing with wild cooling ideas, then we split ways, over many things, and I joined up at Bit-tech, who are generally agreeable, great modders, but not always so hot on extreme cooling. If you're from Bit, you've seen me there.

After running into scopEDog and his amazing waterblocks, he steered me here, where I see great watercooling info from somebody who STOCKS the stuff, and people who can do things either I'm used to or I dream of. This forum has finally tipped me over into going AC for my new system, and I hope that I can share some of the loads of info that rolls around in my head...

So in other words, I'm Reverend Edward Seales, most just call me Sera. Works for me.

Just wanted to drop a line...

My skillz that payz the billz so to speak are those of years in the retail loss prevention and asset protection. I now work with security systems of a large company.

Now for the computer stuff... My name is Matt and I am a techno-junkie... It has been less than 24 hours since I was last tinkering in my PC...

I have been cruising this place for several weeks and am almost to the point where I am gonna dive into the deep end (and probably drown...:o) ).

I have a bunch of parts on hand and on the way:

New Stuff Old Stuff

DFI nF4 SLI-DR AMD Athlon64 3500+
XFX 7900GT 2x512 Corsair Value RAM
Hiper 580 MS PSU Samsung 18x DVD-RW
Thermalright HR-05 SLI OEM HSF

I am still debating about the case to get, but I just want to start off with air cooling. As I see all these great ideas, I can't wait to raise my rotary tool and smell that metal/plasic burn... :dremel:

Hi everyone!

My name is Jarkko aka Evenge. I joined to WizD after I read dutchcedar's BaDassumption work log on Bit-Tech forums, where he mentions that the main idea to the mod came from WizD forums and its members... and after searching and reading a bit of WizD in noticed that many familiar members of Bit-tech can also been found in here! :wiz:

I interested modding some where in 2003 when my friend showed me Piloux's Half-Life 2 case mod and Metku.net web site. However something caught my attention and I interested modding again in summer 2006 when I found bit-tech web site and it's forums. Since then I have been checking bit-tech forums regulary and have read some amazing work logs in there.

So thats it, I hope I didn't bored you with my writings. Oh, and one more thing. I'm from Finland, so excuse my English...

Well, I've really gotten interested in case modding, mainly because I think they're kick ass, unique(however simple or complex) and I can apply my love of art into them. So, in an effort to sate my curiosity, I've decided to get one done. Nothing uber spectacular(no access to uber machinery), just a simple modded case borne of the sometimes drab POS cases you see around and modded by utilizing easily accessible materials that pretty much anyone can get their hands on. I just want to have fun with this, increasing my skills and knowledge base as I go along. It can only get better right? Anyways, I'll kill my rant right here and go post what I've currently done. Oh yeah, glad to be here!

Hi all.

I've been lurking at a lot of modding forums and sites for the past 4-5 years and been dreaming of doing my own modding during that time.

And, now I've decided it's time for starting my own project. It won't be anything drastic, yet I think I've got a few ideas that haven't been seen before. I'll write more about that in the chop section.

Anyway, my name is Teddy Larsen, I live in Denmark and I'm 31 years old. I've been into computers since 1986 where I convinced my cousin to sell me his C64. As for 'real' computers I bought my first one, a 386 40mhz with 4MB RAM and 110MB HDD in 1994.

More about my current setup in the project thread.

Thanks

Hi fellows,

may I introduce myself ... I'm TrOuble from Germany :shock:B)
I've met PUG at the CeBIT/Silo so I really had to register here and look whats going on ... ;)
Hi Ray and a warm welcome to you. :thumb:
Sorry it's taken so long for me to get on here - I ended up taking the kids on holiday when I got back from my whirlwind tour of Germany, so they didn't feel too left out.

As a further introduction, to those who're not aware, not only is Ray a dab hand at UT3 (*ahem* :inno:), he was also the first guy to respond to my HexaDragon casemod thread on the official Aqua Computer forums, back in the day. B)

Hi There,
Just joined this forum, DOH!, from a link given to me on Guru3D (http://forums.guru3d.com) forum where I've been a member for years

Never done any modding to the extent I've seen from you guys here but have a few old cases kickin about (don't we all :eyebrow:) but currently need a case for my latest build. It's something I'd like to give a bash as even if I bugger it up it's not as if the donor cases would have been doing anything else
That's something for another thread though

I'm 39yrs young, into PCs since CPUs ran at 5Mhz lol, well before if you count the older tape-drive Ataris and ZX-Spectrum, eeee lad! lol

I'm into Building PCs, Online Gaming (CS, CS:S, DoD:S & most of the HL stuff, W:ET, ET:QW, etc,) etc but don't have the same time as I used to have for it. Like I probably couldn't commit to a clan atm due to time but all work & no play makes Esskie a dull boy, or so I keep trying to remind myself

Anyway, hopefully I'll bump into some of you across the boards :thumb:

Regards, Esskie

Thanx for the welcome mate :thumb:

I'll tell you what I have noticed, apart from everyone being really friendly & helpful!, there are a lot more people from within the UK on this forum?, don't get me wrong as I don't have anything against non-UK users!

Just putting the few final components to my latest build but still don't have my mind made up about a case?, it's another Asus Crosshair I picked up with an X2 6400+.
I have an Antec 900 still in the box, which I'm a bit concerned about taking a Dremmel to tbh as it's brand spankin and never seen a mobo, buy a cheap windowed case & add whatever extra fans, fan controllers etc as required or I have numerous older cases which I would love to do a case mod on?

Not talking anything mega out there, just a nice looking case, side window, plenty cooling & good airflow. Probably place a 120mm extract on the top,
a front intake, side window fan (92 or 120mm?) on intake & either 2 x 92mm or 1 x 120mm rear extract?

I have a few pics of the case I have in mind, it's actually an old MESH case which I like, tool-less side-panel removal & stacks of room inside!

Hopefully, if I do end up using that case & modding it, I'll make it into a thread with before, during & after pics to share, receive advice, ask opinions etc

Regards, Esskie

Hi,

I'm Mark/Smashie, I normally mod buildings and petrochemical sites, but have modded the odd PC on occasion (not very well and nothing I'm prepared to show).

Cheers,

Mark

Ehm, Hi...

I'm Glider, I never modded the exterior of a PC (well, did nothing that counts) but I do mod the insides. I'm a Linux adept and try to spread the light to as much as possible.

I am enjoying my last days of being a student (by doing exams:sigh:) and I'll be a pipeline inspector starting next monday!

I was pointed to this forum by Nexxo, so hold him responsible for my actions ;)
