History of Nurburgring
A 14-mile rollercoaster ride through the wooded hills of the Eifel plateau in the western part of Germany, not far from the Belgian border. Centered on Nurburg village, which is overlooked by the ruins of an old 12th century castle, the circuit was the brainchild of the local district controller, a Dr. Creutz, who felt the construction would not only reduce the crippling unemployment in the area in the mid-1920s but also promote tourism and help the German motor industry by providing a testing facility. The idea won the support of the Mayor of Cologne, Konrad Adenauer, who would later rise to become the Chancellor of Germany, and it was Adenauer who convinced the government of the day to supply the 15 million Deutschmarks needed for the project. The work began in 1925 and was finished in time for a grand opening in June 1927. The track was wet and the race was won by Rudi Caracciola. A month later the track hosted the German Grand Prix and 100,000 locals turned out to watch Otto Merz win in a Mercedes-Benz.
The old Nurburgring was not one but two circuits which could be used together (making a total of 172 corners) or as separate entities. The Nordschleife (North Loop) was 14.2 glorious miles of tarmac and the Sudschleife (South Loop) was a mere 4.8-miles. Where the two tracks met there was the paddock, the pits, a magnificent wooden grandstand and even a place to stay - the Sporthotel

If i could afford it i'd have one of the last production models from '98, strip all parts of significance and rebuild it with custom parts & biggest engine i could fit in it(is a V12 too ambitious?!) keeping just the chassis, interior and adding a full Veilside boy kit with a mirage paint finish and hoooooge 18" alloys!
Now to fin that £25,000 :D
[EDIT]oh yeah, plus the £5,000 or so for insurance

Really no point in modifying the engine. the 2JZ is extremely overbuilt and can put out 1200HP with proper boltons. no new pistons or rods, etc needed. the engine will take 30psi of boost and ask for more.

yeah i heard it didnt take much to push it over 1000BHP.
I dont profess to be any kinda expert regarding cars, just like what i like and like it fast! A supra seriously will be my first car though, so when i hopefully leave these shores for the states after finishing my degree i'm gonna have to pester u and Mr Owen for advice on where to look.
Is it true that Supras are banned from parts of California due to their inherent lack of economy and friendliness to the ol' enviroment?

Cars imported to cali get more restrictive cataytic convertors, but they can easily be swapped out :h34r: providing your mod isn't discovered in your annual emission test. I dunno if Cali still does those  MN stopped those tests few years ago.

I'll look around for the info, but i think it had something to do with the emissions being 'incompatable' with CA laws...
will return
[EDIT]
Ah ha - taken from http://www.toyota-supra.com/toyota_supra_history.htm No turbocharged models will be available in California-emission states, and only automatic non-turbos will sold in those same areas.
May aswell have banned them. :(

Ouch! that sucks, but I bet you could find one thats been modified. Cali is the meca of Import performance shops.
Besides restrictive convertors, I've known of some Cali imports having smaller downpipes as well.

Ahwell, never even said i was thinking of moving there. I get to pick from 50 states, well, maybe not, i think some are automatic no-no's ^_^
Needs a bit of research first, need to know what is needed from a career point of view, and in the light of recent events i'm not sure the US is letting many ppl in... i s'pose i'll find out soon enough.
In the mean time i'll go back to dreamin' about my car, and if i can't have a Supra i'll settle for a Carrera 4 :D

California is a shitty place to live when it comes to car mod laws. you have to have an approval sticker for damn near everything. My advice: live in nevada if you like it hot - they don't seem to have dumb laws.
PA isn't so bad -but they just started doing emission tests. Good thing I'm not driving my fox with the 2.5" all the way back w\ only a muffler exhaust system. No cat. no resonator. No rebreather valve - ugly as shit but it got good mileage and that loss of restriction probably bought me a few HP.

Mmmmm Supra. I love those cars to bits.
Can't see the video yet, but I'll hopefully get to check it out in a couple of weeks when I go to Uni (if my other housemates stop crying over the frigging broadband activation charges!)

For awhile, I had just headers on my Bronco :D Just for like a week tho, until I got the money to get an exhaust built. Still, I shoulda taken it and cruised Main, and showed the ricer boys what a real motor should sound like ^_^

That was awesome. definately one of my top favorite tracks in the world.
BTW, the new Gran Tourismo 4 is going to have Nurburgring. I'm getting pumped up about this game that is SUPPOSEDLY due out before the end of the year

Is it true that Supras are banned from parts of California due to their inherent lack of economy and friendliness to the ol' enviroment? No. The Supra looks like a Honda Insight next to some of the cars built here in America. Roads 'round here are crawling with H2's and Excursions(excretions?) If you can afford it, you can drive whatever you want as long as it passes smog and you're ready to pay close to $3.00 a gallon for gas. I drive a 4WD toyota tacoma and get about 15-17 mpg.
For awhile, I had just headers on my Bronco :Domg, pwnage!!

Apologies to anyone who has seen this vid. already, but if you haven't get ready to laugh.:)
