Edd posted his lovely desktop in kazuo's sketchup collection thread, so I figured its good to post yer desktop. Obviously, if anyone sees anything cool about anyone elses desktop, or any 'how'd you do that' type stuff, THEY SHOULD ASK! :)

Please post either resized pix or linked thumbnails. Try to keep it to 640 wide, ppl :)

Yeah, its pretty boring. I'm a minimalist, but i AM running a non-default visual style (watercolor ergonomic). I used to be hard into the gui customization, but now is all cool to look at but for me its just become more of a hassle than its worth ;)

I have this running across three Samsung 213T flat panels with a resolution of 4800x1200... it was made by hacking a few deviant art designs... with my company name on the right and 'puter specs on the left. <_<

edit: I tried on the width, really, I did...

But you DID use a parhelia, right ?

dutchcedar
3rd September 2004, 16:33
I did. For the last few years I was running three 21" IBM P260's with Parhelias. The 2400MP duallie still has a 256MB Parhelia in it.

I went to multiple cards to handle DVI without adapters and the higher resolutions. So far, so good... with my only complaint being that the PCI card doesn'y always keep pace with the AGP card.

I miss the reef demo... It was kind of a morning ritual... coffee and the reef demo.

Dual PCI Express slots would be a cool thing.

Dual PCI Express slots would be a cool thing.

It would, wouldn't it? Well, as you may (or may not) know, Alienware is bringing out a Dual Xeon motherboard with two X16 PCI Express slots, called, imaginatively, the X2. This is so it can accomodate their dual graphic card setup with SLI.

There has been some speculation about which anonymous company Alienware worked with to design the motherboard exclusively for them. Most people's bet is it is Supermicro. It is a known fact that Supermicro recently brought out two mobos with a dual X16 PCI-E slot, although it claims one of those will, in effect, only be an X4 in X16 form factor. You could ask yourself about the logic of such a setup, and whether in fact this is a "crippled" Aleinware X2 which could be turned into a full dual X16 PCI-E setup with a small hack. In any case Alienware can't be selling enough of their X2 systems to justify the development of a whole new board just for them.

Also, with SLI becoming a more general consumer feature on the new nVidea GPU boards, mobo manufacturers are sure to follow with suitable boards. So be patient, young Padawan... they will come.

toby
4th September 2004, 12:56
nexxo i think that the alienware system is different to the standard sli offerend by nvidia im pretty sure i read it in some magazine or something, along witht the fact that ati were saying that they prefered the alienware way of doing things to nvidias sli. although they would say that!

...and if you think that is hot, go :here: (http://www.osx-e.com/downloads/dashboard/) to download "WidgetDock", a widget that makes Konfabulator emulate OSX Widgets completely, with collapsible Widgetbar (I tell you, it looks and moves like the real thing!). The site also features some Konfabulator Widgets that are not found on the Konfabulator home site, and that have been enhanced for that OSX look and functionality.

Alot of stuff from the makers of ObjectDesktop. No shells at the time of screenie. What you see is just a cutsom menu mod.

Just google Window shells and have at it. Alot of the best ones can cost money but there are good free ones as well.

The pic was taken somewhere over South America.

Google for Coolmon for a simple text display, Coolmon2 for more graphical, but hard to configure, or probably most popular Samurize. I should also mention konfabulator too.

Heh, I grabbed a few of those recent shuttle pics from when they were taking hi-res shots of the underside to assess damage, prior to the in-flight repairs.
Can't remember where a put the link to the page of 'em but a swift google turned up the NASA ReturnToFlight MultiMedia gallery (http://www.nasa.gov/returntoflight/multimedia/).

Enjoy. :-)

My desktop

As you can see I like c4 Vettes.

Thats the last yz dock. When not in use it only uses 640k or so ram when maximised it uses way more, like 4-6megs depending on the image. And now it takes the icons from the original files therefore you dont need an icon pack.

I personaly love it. Its one of the things I have carried over from my mac wana be phase. But I used it so long that now I like my start bar ontop too.

And the clock is called clockx.

Well enough of my talking there she is.
