hi guys

yesterday i was suprised too say the least when an old friend gave me a computer. some how he found out i was a gaming freak and had a old machine sitting around. so last night this small off white dirty machine turned up, me bieng the cowboy i am i removed the heatsink too fine out the chip type. only thing i have found is a list of numbers ontop of the chip itself and the wording PENTIUM below are the details of the chip and number stamped ontop

A80502120 SY033
Icomp index = 1000
86300128-1022
Intel 92-93

i was thinking of using this old machine as a basic server too take strain of my already networked P4. i have never seen a mobo like this before and the super massive keyboard imput sockets. i do know that it is a Socket 7 but thats about it :o), any help with the model of chip installed and how too set up a computer as a server would be fantastic

thank you

Tam

Looks like a vanilla Intel Pentium 120mhz processor. Not sure it'll be worth it running a server on it. It'll be pretty slow methinks.

It'll make a fine hardware router/firewall for your shared internet connection.

I started this new thread that may help your cause.
I have been wanting to do this kind of thing for a while with my old hardware lying around the shop/garage. Hopefully, the new thread can help you out on your quest for a server from old hardware.

Sure, but he's gonna use it to "offload" a Pentium 4 computer, I don't see the point. Whatever runs on a Pentium 120mhz doesn't occupy many percent on the mondern cpu. But I agree that it's nice to make use of the resources that are available, even older boxes :-)
