Shamelessly pinched from Bit-Tech, the news that AMD's takeover of ATi means the ATi brand will disappear and be replaced by AMD branded GPUs.
Interesting.

I don't suppose it'll be too noticeable.
Most cards are branded versions of ATi or Nvidia reference designs, so it'll be a little bit like buying an Intel-chipset based mobo from Abit I guess?
That said - so long ATi, and thanks

So long and thanks for all the fish.
OC is correct, however... I doubt there will be a huge change... though perhaps they'll integrate some of AMD's processing know-how...

i just hope it doesn't hurt support for older cards, and they keep the drivers updated still.

That would be the biggest concern. As the name ATi is set to all but disappear, the support could go the same way with little impact on AMD's reputation - at least within the lesser-informed sectors of the computing community.
It'll be interesting to see if AMD have a roadmap for making their own Mobo chipsets too. We could end up with systems built primarily by AMD.

And if they make and sell Core 2 chipsets (aka continue developing RD600) they will be able to make money off of Core 2. That could be a w00t allright!
This is old news... if you read the statements on this from either's webby, you would know that they both have already stated the company would operate under the AMD name.
I was hoping they'd keep ATi as a brandname or trademark. I'd rather see an ATi Radeon with AMD's symbol on the package than AMD Radeon. Maybe it just sounds cheesey right now. It's not like they bought ATi to become AMD/ATi, they bought it to be a more complete AMD, thus there's no distintion between the company nor can it be divided into assorted entities.
Maybe not: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/custompc/news/91650/amd-stays-hand-over-ati-brand-axe.html
