No lie.

I got this computer from one of my customer service girls today. She had a bad Hard Disk Drive and since it was a built computer and given to her she didnt want to spend money on a new HDD and OEM Windows.

So i say "20 bucks ill take it off your hands"
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129155

It was a no-name video card, an xp1700. an abit-KB7 board, corsair memory. etc. junk i just wanted the damn case truthfully.

Ok well i take it home- and decide... linux... server... why not.
So here i am taking it completely apart exept the motherboard i left fastened.

Took it into the garage and completely Blowed the parts out with compressed air i have downstairs. I clean everything off dust dirt everything, give it some goo-gone (papertowel applied as to not touch the insides *note that the case is completely sealed*) and polished it up with some windex.

After all that i install some black drives, a floppy drive, a maxtor 80gb i had lying around, a PCI gforce card simple 40 dollar test card... etc. just wanted it to run gentoo or something.
well after that i cable manage and carefully read the PCB for hdd-LED, Pwr Switch... doubt i got it all right... but best. whats the possible worst that can happen... i turn on the pc and the speakers come on, and the LED's blink.... woopy

Well i get up after some hard work and stand above my newly formed PC and stand in astonishment at how sexy she looks :toast:. I give it a cheers (gatorade) and bolt downstairs to turn this beast to at least post. and possibly get to bios.

Now..... i turn it on and the second i do:
SPARKS F***ing everywhere! inside the power supply. (note that when i made my offer it was partially because the power supply tested good... i have power supply testers and am quite good at the DVM... an antec truepower 430watt...)

im so friggen shaken im afraid to take the computer apart and test the stuff... to see if anything is salvagable... or even to see if i should just replace the psu...

im just gonna keep the case and trash everyyyyything.! i am not dealing with it.

just had to share. cause lemme tell u today at work i told my friend that one of my childhood neighbors lost his life working on a computer. Was shocked to death...

Irony eh?

damn im shaken up guys...:-(

You get used to PSU's blowing their guts out their ass after a while - had some PSU's fire resistors out and in to our slot-wall at work. Still have a wicked black scar there to remind us to keep away from the rear when powering up!

Still though it can make you jump if your not expecting it!

...Just unplug it and let the caps drain before ever messing with the damned thing. First rule of working on electronics... don't touch when they've got juice.

Open it up, see what happened... or at least give us some pics!
