I'm considering getting a Mac OS but i'm not sure how compatible would it be with .... lets say Ms documents... *.doc
In my school they request papers online to be handed in digitally only with .doc extensions... so if i write something on Mac could i transfer it to *.doc?

You can get MS Office for Mac, it'll write the same files.
I work in education, and there are plenty of users of Mac office... no problems really, save for the lack of MS Access for the mac.

if you wanna switch to mac i suggest you read this: http://www.apple.com/getamac/
im a mac owner myself and swear by them. as with anything new, it takes some getting used to, but after a month or so of fumbling around youll feel right at home.

Mac versions of office is actually better than the current version of office 2003 (that said the new beta of the next office is superb).
In terms of switching you simply can't beat the mac , particularly now you can run windows on them! I have a macbook pro and a mac mini as well as a couple of pcs and the network/integration of them is soooo easy. I can transfer pretty much anything between them with no issues.
Go for it for the virus free easier life !

Macs get viruses... like any thing else you want to develop something that will get largest target there are a larger number of windows users meaning there are more viruses and such.
I would go a head and get one but get office for the mac.

Os x has never had a infection of any viruses. There is two trojans but both of those needed you to put your password in for it to actually infect you.

A friend of mine recently decided to skip buying a new PC and instead, went for a Macbook.
He loves the thing way too much! He's sure it's the best decision he has ever made, but he does want to play games and the mobile x1600 is a bit underpowered, expecially if he wants to use the 30" Cinema display he bought with it :o
I toyed with the idea of getting a Powerbook in 2004, but decided to skip it. I'm now thinking of a Macbook myself so I can learn about Mac's and have access to a computer when I travel.

Be very carefull with the new 13inch mac book. They seem to be flakey in construction, at least the ones at my job were. The users who owned them had 3 rma's so far and all lcd related. The symptoms seem to be flickering lcd's or dead lcd's.
Im shure they fixed it by now. but keep a look out and rma at the first sign of truble.
FYI bootcamp is awsome. Love running dual boot on the macbookpro at work. Fast machine and batery life is superb.

i have a 13" White macbook and the quality is superb. none of these issues you mentioned. although it gets a tad toasty in my lap its not unbearable. its nice to finally have an apple notebook, and one thats easy to upgrade without having to take it completely apart like the old notebooks.
