The oppurtunity and money just popped up. Right now I can upgrade my 9800 to a 128mb GeForce 6800 or possibly a GT (that will be seriously pushing it and leave me with $50 to spend on everything else for a couple weeks). Now, if I do decide to grab this card, will my current AlphaCool GPX work if I also grab the Nvidia bracket or is there something else to worry about? I really don't want to use air, but if I have to for a while, I guess it's doable.

I imagine it would work but I couldn't find a bracket for the new 6800 card.
Also isn't it a bit overkill going from a 9800 to a 6800. I'm still using a 9000

Perhaps, but I got an offer on my 9800 that I'd love to take. The improvements from this past generation to this one are supposed to be pretty good, good enough to make some ppl with real XT's (old XT's) jump onto GT's.
Until I sell my card I don't have the money, so if I hold off and wait, beats me. Now I sort of don't want to sell, ack, I hate second guessing and doubting.

Its a difficult one! If it was me i would wait till the next generation and PCI express is fully established. Problem is by then your current card isnt worth as much so you have to save more money!

That's sort of what I wanted to do. My original goal was to try to save up and wait for an AMD chipset with PCI-E (perhaps an NForce with dual PCI-E 16x slots for SLI), but it's becoming harder and harder to resist. The offer I have is great, but I don't know how long it will last. If I do jump on a plain 6800, it's gotta be an XFX (aka Pine Technology) dual DVI card. That way I can add this other LCD that's sort of being used with another computer (more of a spare to use when mine is offline) to mine and have 2 monitors. Of course one is 16ms and the other 25, but still, I've never used 2 monitors before and it's pretty exciting to me!

Once you taste the alyxir of duel monitors you never want to drink anything else .... except maybe the alyxir of treble monitors

Thing is if you spend your money on the 6800 then its probably only going to last you this set of hardware. When you upgrade your mobo you wont be able to use it unless you get one with both AGP and PCI-X. :(
It makes better financial sense to wait but then us watercoolers are ruled by the heart and not the head! :p

Well I'm upgrading from a 9800XT to 6800GT, after all, once you got used to game at 1600x1200 it hurts to drop back to 1024x768, especially for games like Doom 3 :D
Oh and I intend to install a Twinplex block on it as well to keep the unwanted noise down.

Quick update to this - I sent a couple of the old twinplex plates to mashie to see if we could upgrade his older TwinPlex to fit the 6800GT but the ones I had don't quite fit so there should be a new clamp plate coming out for them soon, I'd imagine.
Watch this space, eh?
(Thanks for checking mashie  )

I imagine AC.de will have their butts in gear pretty quick for this. I know a 9800pro isn't bad, but it still seems to slow down even at 1024x768. Need... more...power...
Now where are the black PCB 6800GTs?

No more Innovatek for me, at least for now.
If I manage to "acquire" $$$$ for an Nvidia SLI (hoping that comes out and makes a splash) I'd go for one Aqua Computer and one Innovatek block. Ooooh! ^_^

that picture looks like a product of sketchup to me, and not a real picture.

My Twinplex block will have to stay on the x800pro where it fit quite well...

The 6800GT will now be cooled by a (DD NV-68 block) in a new project. After all what is the challenge in watercooling a shuttle with 6mm ID tube when you can go american style with 1/2"? :D :D

BFG Tech do a water block for their 6800 Ultra's, I don't know if you can buy it seperately though.

NoxThat's a Koolance block and the card isn't in high demand, which is why there aren't many around. Besides, the price premium for that one over an ultra is rather high. Just buy a GT and slap anything on it and OC it. ^_^ Unless it's one of those stubborn cards, then you'll get to mod it a bit.
I ended up deciding to wait for PCI-E, which seems to be right around the corner. Yay!

I was planning on waiting for PCI-E but got a rather good deal of 25% off an allready cheap price so how could I refuse :D took the BFG ultra cheaper than most stores XFX GT prices!!
