View Full Version : Installation of a 120.3 Rad in a Lian Li 2000+??

Hi,

I have been thinking of another place to fit a 120.3 rad in a V2000+. I don't want it in the top as I have an XFI card and it won't fit with the rad in the top. I know the rads can be fitted to the bottom but then doesn't it suck up a lot of rubbish from the floor? Plus I think its a bit fiddly if I have a 120.3 to fit it over the back wheels.

So I was thinking of having the Rad in the PSU compartment but side mounted. So the PSU would be mounted at the top of the PSU compartement instead of the bottom. Then if the measurements I have been given for the PSU compartment from top to bottom (24cm) is correct I could underneath the PSU mount the RAD. I would then create some L brackets and then attach the actual Rad to the case and then put some kind of rubber between the rad and the side panel.

Would this work?? Is the one L bracket running the length of the rad enough to hold it? I am getting an Enermax Liberty 620w PSU which according to the website is 8.6cm deep. Thus I would be left with 15.4cm of space. And according to the Thermochill webpage a 120.3 rad is 12.6cm. So that would mean a gap of 2.8cm surely? Then I just cut out a section of the side panel for the grill.

If anyone could double check that the PSU compartments height is 24cm that would be great.

It will work fine :thumb:

The only real limiting factor is your imagination ^_^

A lot of people do the floor mounted thing, then raise the case, but the case doesn't have to sit on the floor. Voyeurmods does the sideways thing like you're planning with their monster quad heater core, so that will work your way if wanted.

Hrmm, look at this pic: http://www.voyeurmods.com/images/products/thumb_WC_V2000_01.jpg (it's much smaller than it should be  )

Hi,

Yep thats similar to what I want to do. Although I will have the Rad sitting at the back and a full HDD rack at the front with a 120mm fan in the front to cool the HDD. I was going to mount it to a side panel but it was pointed out to me that it would be hard to remove the panels and that it will probably vibrate. SO gonna stick it next to the side panel and use some rubber to stop it vibrating.

Would those gasket things you can buy for Thermochill rads do the job instead of me buying rubber and trying to cut it?

Ahhh I must have been looking at a different picture lol. Basically I don't want to do what is in the picture 2JSC posted. I have linked to a quick photoshop I did of how I want to mount the RAD.

Let me know what you think.

Ive seen that done a few times, not often though. It should be fine, i would sugest fixing it securely to the case rather than the panel also.

a cross flow type of intake.... you gonna put mesh on the other side so that the air can escape?

Hi,

fivecheebs - Yeah thats what I was aiming to do, make an L bracket and bolt it to the bottom of the case, if it aint to strudy may have to make up something to attach to the top of the PSU compartment.

2JSC - Well thinking of getting the side with the window in as I have seen it for 36 quid compared to 55 quid everywhere else, as I aint that confident with jigsaw cutting etc. And then cut out a hole below this for the mesh. Or if I do feel confident just go at the panel and do both the window and the mesh hole. What colour mesh do you think - Silver or black?

as for the mesh, go with a mesh the same color as the case, to kind of steal the intake. I'f you dont go nuts with the jigsaw you should be able to straighten up your cuts with some files.
