Ok, I've been trying to install an OS on my computer for afew weeks now, For Some Reason My CD-ROM drive won't process to the motherboard and whatnot, So this is what happens, I turn on the pc, insert the Windows XP Home Disk, Close the Drive, and it makes the reading sounds, but nothing happens on the screen, Now if i use floppys to boot it to, i can do all 6 floppys but when it asks me to insert the disk, and when i do, it just doesnt read the disk, but it makes the noises and ect. Now I have tryed switching the IDE cables, I Switched out my other PC drive in the new PC and that didnt work, and i've messed with the little Master, Slave, and CS clips on the back of it, and still nothing works, My Computer teacher said i may need to install the Driver, How would i do that? Could i do it from a floppy? Also i have a SATA hard drive and doesnt connect with an IDE cable, could that be an issue?
Have you set the bios to boot from CD?
The drivers thing he refers to is when you install Windows you may need to press F6 when it says and install the SATA drives from a floppy.

sounds like your CD is dying, or your bios isn't set right.
my fav solution is a customised install CD:

Reply to Darv -- Bios is currently set to boot to CD, and when i boot the pc up, it goes through the whole computer information then says some like "warning CMOS Settings" this and that, I cannot even get windows to start... all i can get to is where i do a floppy boot, and then it asks to put the cd into the drive and it wont read the cd.
Reply to Starbuck -- I know for sure the cd isnt dying, because this is the 4th windows XP installation i'm up too, and it could definitly be my bios, and i'll have a good look at that site.

my dvd/cd rom done the same thing with any disc that was inserted. it would work but after around an hour of putting in a disc in an out in an out and shaking my fist about. in the end i dumped the drive and brought a new one had no more issues. too be honnest it sounds like your drive is on its way out as your problem is the same i had.

I've already switched out the IDE cables, from brand new ones to fairly old ones, and still have the same issue. I've also switched the jacks around and changed the IDE mobo connection.

Have you tried resetting the CMOS on your mobo? If it's giving you an error on boot it might be worth a try

Yes i have done that, and everytime i end up doing that, it shows up with that error...

The only thing that I can suggest is getting hold of a known working drive from one of your friends/family and see if that reads the disk.
Sorry I couldn't give any better advice, but I'm either stumped or my brain is too addled to think of anything more obvious. :o)

lol, i dont blame yeah, but yes i have tried that, i switched it with my other pc, and it still didnt work, Do your think if i switched the hard drives, it will work? The Drivers i need go onto the HDD when first uploaded right?

CMOS battery failiure.
Or
What is the BIOS reading on the secondary IDE channel? Is it even seeing the drive?

yes it sees the drive, and what do i do if it would be a CMOS battery Failure, Change the little battery on the motherboard?¿?¿?

you can change the battery, and you can get these from most places (i forget the name of the battery)
this is really weird.

I know for a fact my Floppy drive works, because i can do boot disks from it, but the hard drive is on sata and the cd rom drive is on IDE, do i need a hdd on an IDE? may that be the problem?

You could try disabling the cd-rom drives DMA mode, try changing the settings for the drive in the BIOS to PIO mode-4. Worth a try.
Have you another CD to try or have you done this allready?

try an IDE hard drive......i bet it wont work.
i think you may have a duff IDE port / controller

What drives do you see in the BIOS?
You may need to re-detect the CDROM if you've been swapping things around.
Go into the BIOS and make sure you can see the FDD, CDROM and HDD.
Then go and check your boot order - set it to be something like this
FDD
CDROM (IDE)
HDD (SCSI/SATA)
Other (network/USB - this is optional for now)
What motherboard is it?
The more info we have, the less stabs in the dark you'll get. :thumb:
