Okay this is my exact problem. First off i couldnt install an OS on my PC, so i decided i was going to it with floppy boot disks. but then once i turned on my pc, it said some like 'CPU ERROR REPROGRAM" this and that. so i listened to it, reset it, and then did the whole, Time, date and ect settings, in the cpu/bios setup. Then it went to restart, but went pitch black and did crap. i turned it off. now everytime i turn on the power supply on the back, the whole damn computer turns on and the on/off switch in the front wont work the motherboard is ignoring it. and still the screen will be black, also i know its not the power supply because i disconnected it from the motherboard then tryed to turn it on, and nothing happened, is there a way to reset?

I moved this thread to general hardware from general. That section is for non computer related posting. Please pay attention to the different sections.

Thanks, Dr. Fibbles

Sounds like something is broken. Sounds like you have allready done so, but unplug the machine push the power button to discharge remaining juice and clear the CMOS with the jumper on the motherboard for a couple of minutes. Then replace the jumper and attempt to fire it up.

If this does not improve the situation then I suggest removal of all extraneus PCI cards, drives and memory. Clear the CMOS again and try to boot the machine, experiment with replacing the single ram module in the machine with the others (assuming you have more than one) just incase it's a faulty stick of ram. Ensure all components and cabling are seated fully. Inspect the components for surface damage or faulty components (e.g. leaking capacitors).

Still no joy then I'd strip the machine out of the case as well, stick the motherboard on a non-conductive surface and attempt to get it started on the open bench again with minimum configuration.

Still no workee then it's time to start swapping components out if you have spares.

It's hard to tell what the error might be from your post it could be anything from a dodgy cpu, flaky BIOS, faulty motherboard or faulty ram.

It will likely be located next to the battery or the CMOS chip. It should have some writing next to it something along the lines of CLR_CTRL or CLR_CMOS. Your motherboard manual will show you the location of the jumper, download the manual from the manufacturers website if you don't have a hard copy.
