Well my PC has just been running fine as it normally does folding away with the CPU at 50C, 10C under the shutdown safety thing. I was playing with ATITool setting up the fan control, it said the fan was running at 2% so i thought i'd switch on my 2 12" blue CCFLs to try and see what it looked like and the PC died a death and when it didn't turned back on after a couple of presses of the power button i poo'd my pants.

So i switched off the power with the switch on the psu unplugged the 2 sets of CCFLs and 2 of the case fans, switced the psu back on and it booted. Everything is plugged back in and i have tried the CCFLs that seem to have caused it to die and they have not made it do it again. Nothing seems to be damaged, no BSODs in the event viewer the only thing i can see is that the CMOS was "lost" (or however it put it) and it has been reset to default.

What the hell just happened to my pc?

Its a 450W aerocool turbine power. I have never experienced any previous instability even when running it at 3.8GHz while folding while playing UT2004 while listening to music for a few hours so i don't think its underpowered.

If it was the first time the CCFL's were turned on for a while, the inrush current may have just pushed the PSU over it's trip levels. The switch might have bounced too, putting noise on the 12V rail which can have the same effect.

Switching on extra equipment on an already running PC can do odd things. The PSU shouldn't be treated as a general purpose supply, Make sure everything is either on at boot time, or use a seperate supply for those you switch in and out.
