hi there
so now it's time for my new project:cool:
the case i am modding right now is the lian li pc v2000!
i chose this case because i really like the way it looks and because it has a lot of space to work with

my hardware is still the same so here are just the specs of the watercooling-system:
1x cuplex pro
1x twinplex for my nf7-s
1x twinplex for my 9800pro
1x aquatube
1x airplex evo 120
2x airplex evo 240 (which will be combined with docking moduls)
4x 120 papst fans
1x aquastream pump
1x aquaero

here are some pics of the case
http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/001_ankunft.JPG

http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/002_case-front.JPG

http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/003_case-heck.JPG

http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/004_case-innen.JPG

http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/005_case-hdds.JPG

http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/006_powerbutton.JPG

so
my plans are to put the aquatube and a window on the roof of the case and the airplex evos in the lower section to somehow isolate them from the warm hardware. i still have to decide what kind of motive i am going to cut in the roof and the sidepannel but i think it's going to be a tribal or something like that

at first i wanted to put the two evos in the front, so i removed the walls which hold the hdd's
http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/014_evo-raum1.JPG

then it came to my idea, to put in an evo 360 instead of the two 240
so i removed the last wall too
http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/016_evo-raum3.JPG

after thinking a while i did not feel really comfortable with removing these nice hdd holding-walls so i again changed my mind:D
i put in two walls again so that i can fit in 6 hdd's down there and decided to go with two airplex evos 240 again:rolleyes:
to be able to put the two radis down there i have to turn around the powersupply mounting plate
(the white box shows where i am going to place the two evos)
http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/017_evo-raum4.JPG

now you can see why i decided to take the v2000! you have a lot of different possibilities to fit in different types and configurations of radiators!

at the moment i just ordered the cuplex pro, the aquatube and the evo 120 to be able to work with my good pc again and because it would last too long to save my money for all the watercooling stuff first:D

i have already taped the roof to cut out the hole for the aquatube and the window
http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/018_abgeklebt.JPG

but unfortunately i am still waiting for my firtst order to arrive:(

this is how i got so far and when the the tube and the other things arrive i will show you what motiv i am going to cut in the roof:)

i know it's not much yet but i will update this thread constantly

and i want to thank kazuo who helped me with a lot of tips and ideas^_^

You need to buy enough Western Digital 74 gig Raptors, each with an Alphacool bead blasted copper block, to fill up every single one of those spaces on both of the hard drive sections. You might need a few RAID cards, but it will all work out. I almost bought that case, but it was too much and the upside-down scares me. BTX is bad for AMD...

14th July 2004, 23:28
Wow. That's the evolution of the old full tower (PC70) which I have, but that one just seems to have SO much more room!!! (Obviously Lian Li have just utilised it better with that BTX layout)

Can't wait to see how this goes :)

and why should btx be bad for amd?
According to some reviews I read it is BTX enabled. BTX is upside-down ATX and supposedly it has the holes in the same spots as an ATX board/case has. The AMD 64 has some problems with the length of some trace routes and data paths leading between vital parts. I'll try to find that document.

I can confirm that its a BTX ready case. :)

Look at the picture second from bottom and chek out how many moutning points there are on the mobo tray!

a little update

today i have removed the power supply platfrom and i have modded the power supply mounting plate so that it can be positioned in the right way
http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/017_evo_raum4a.JPG

and i got a mail from aqua computer that my ordered parts are on the wa:)
so i think i can provide you with pics from the modded roof on sunday oder monday

That's about the nicest "stock" case I've ever seen... will be watching your progress with great anticipation, because nice as it is, it deserves a little customizin' action.

This should clear up some of the BTX questions

http://www.formfactors.org/FFDetail.asp?FFID=12&CatID=1

As for AMDs problems, Ive read that this is just because of the current AMD socket designs dont mesh well with the new format of motherboard components.
Maybe AMD can creat thier own ass-backwards form factor, Intel did right?

That is a monster of a case btw:blink: Looks super clean though.
Cant wait to see more progress.

i finally found a motive for the sidepannel
after sitting here in front of the case and thinking about my previous mods my old deus ex lan case came into my mind
i really like the deus ex logo and i think it will make a good combination with the pc v2000

so here is the sidepannel while i am preparing it for the dremel:D
http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/021_logo1.JPG

and here is the prepared sidepannel on the case
i know it's pretty ugly with all the masking tape but i think you can get an idea of how it will look
http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/022_logo2.JPG

tomorrow i just have to buy me some cutting wheels and then the i can start with the dremel action:lol:

hi there
and again a update (but a sad one:( )
yesterday my stuff from ac arrived and i began to work on the case
i decided to use the holding plate for the tube because i think the tube looks somehow better with it!

and here is the sad part
while drilling the holes for the tube my dremel died!
i finished the hole with a jigsaw but my problem now is that i don't want use that jigsaw for my sidepannel...
now i have to wait until i get a new dremel (and that will throw my financial plans back a little bit<_< )

at least i mounted the cube and my system is working again (looks crappy in the case but who cares at that moment....:D )

now here are the pics

looking good crimson... red coolant would look a lot better (just a bit of advice).

I hate the way all the ATI vid cards as of late seem to be Red. I want variety darnit! make eiditins in red, black, blue, whatever. not difficult, its just different substrate. i wish a manufacturer would catch on to this.

when you said you were going to dremel the side panel, i thought, 'My God!' it'll take weeks! the side panel is so thick! i love this case can't wait to see how it finishes!

I don't think i'm brave enough to chop the side panel... glad someone did it first!

Crimson,
I like this mod a lot - I may have to 'borrow' one or two of your ideas!! :D
That case looks to be almost perfect for watercooling.

P.S. Is that a bong cooler I see in the background of your side window piccie?

hi there

and again it's update time

today i bought me a new dremel
http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/039_dremel1.JPG

and i also finished the first part of the second bow
http://www.andiathome.de/yashar/v2000/041_logo.JPG

@Olly
i am glad to help someone out with my ideas ;)
and yes that's a bong cooler in the background!
this was a part of my first watercooling rig which i had nearly four years ago! it really is a killer when it comes to cooling but unfortunately the disadvantages are too big when it comes to long term usage!
i just picked it up again to give it a little optical surgery:D
but at first i will finish the case...

@Dr.Fibbles
the rads are for the whole system

Darv
24th July 2004, 15:58
Window's looking great! Bit of a shame that you won't be able to see all the lovely insides of the case though.

Crimson-AC-
24th July 2004, 17:38
but that's exactly my aim!
i don't like all the super big windows which show everything in your case like a whorehouse:D
the little insights you get from the cut-out make the whole case more exciting

Crimson-AC-
25th July 2004, 23:17

i got me a bulgin switch with a blue led ring

Woot!

Qs:
Are you going to leave the power plug and hoses for the rear rad hanging out or are you going to make 'nice' holes for them?

Inside shots?

Rear power-plug mod for the pump (Like I've done) by taking the mains connector from a dead PSU and modding it into the rear panel?

Crimson-AC-
26th July 2004, 23:57
the cooling setup right now is just temporary
the rad will go inside the case and the actual pump will be replaced with an aquastream pump which works with 12 volt

27th July 2004, 06:19
Invisible War is ok, they had to make it more "accesible" to appeal to a wider audience. I never bought the original (it came bundled with my Soundblaster I think).

The panel is pretty nice. I can't wait to see it when it's done. Are you planning on painting or coloring it up at all?

@Edd: Where would someone put one of those 1800 rads anyway? Besides the side panel...

toby
27th July 2004, 09:25
i think that the case is not very good looking even though its exceptionally well made, but the interior is absolutly amazing with all the different sections to control heat and i think the way your goigng to have the rads down by the powersupply is great for temps. nice work on the window its looking good keep up the work.

The side is what I was thinking. I suppose you could put it in the top of a big cube case ... or the bottom, and have a computer-cum-hovercraft http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

hi guys!

it's update time again!

my v2000 project is mostly finished! i still have to decide if i want to buy an aquaero or not. on the one hand it is a really nice device for controlling the fans and the aquastream pump but on the other hand you have to spend 150€ on it:unsure:
also it woud be cool to make a nice and stylish rheobus again, like in the good old days where we did not have all the bling bling stuff like an aquaero:lol: (i would use nice aluminium knobs and switches for switching between full or variable speed)

i also have to make some kind of struts for the lower section because the case lost some of its stability after removing the hdd-racks and the divider.

Crimson-AC-

i bought the cf as a sheet because i did not want to mess around with the epoxy and the hardener just for this "small" part! (i played around with fiberglas in the past therefore i know that it can get ugly really fast :D)

i also thought about using cf for strengthening the case but unfortunately i don't have time to buy the cf and work on it
therefore a friend of mine is making some struts out of aluminium which will do the work temporary (he has the right machinery at his workingplace)
but i think i will buy me some cf again;)

the problem is that i do not have all the necessary tools for such a project!
the most work is done with my dremel and my cold, dead and bloody hands:rolleyes:
but it's a lot of fun nevertheless

if not i will take the cf film too, because it's really cheap und cool looking too...

but here's a little special update

Hey all just a quick question but I presume you have moved the HDD to the 51/2 (1/4, I can never remember) with a HDD water cooling block?! Seeing as you have the case and I want one I was wondering if you could tell me, the HDD racks positioned at the bottom, are they weilded in or rivited? Also how did you remove them cause I will probable remove 1x HDD rack and extend the second to accomodate a HDD water cooler. Also take a look at this link I know this is a bit late for your mod but I think its a bit more practicle radiator setup (not knocking your design, I really like what you have done with the case!)
http://www.frozencpu.com/images/products/detail_secondary_hires/cas-307_4.jpg
Another professionally moded case -$599.00, and nothing on MNPCTechs stuff!! But still pretty cool, I thought I would introduce the audience of MNPCTech to this picture, this will be a feature of my case - one day! Night All

mnpc :^P I don't want to be a jerk, but you have some typos on that CF page.

8. Trim off excess film with ravor blade or Exacto knife.

9. If any bubbles remain, poke hole in film with small needle while its wet.

10. Allow plenty of time to dry. 24hrs should be sufficiant.

razor and sufficient

:^) Just trying to help.

Lovin' that case... its MASSIVE! And would definately provide plenty of working space... However the trade-off is lack of desk space/floor space... thats why I'm making Echo :^) Trying to make a small space saving design that is portable and stylish.

But If I had a bigger room in my apartment I'd definately mod one of those.

Also on the topic of the bequiet PSUs, they appear to only run on 195v - 220v, and if I'm not mistaken, USA is something around 120 +/- 10% ?
