I'm looking into hole saws, but I don't know much. Do I need a drill to use a hole saw? Can I just attach it to my Dremel? I like my Dremel, but I can't cut circles for sh*tsky (and I're read and followed the guide at MNPC :(). So back to his question, what would be the best hole cutter?

no u can't attach to ur dremel

buy a drill and get a hole saw, ur gonna need something else too but i forgot what it's called. u prolly wont cut too much metal w/ it, use it for ur bezel and then hack away w/ the dremel.

Um, thanks. :)

Any reccomendation on good drills? My grandfather gave me a POS drill that some one left at his house after they were done re-roofing it a while ago (years), but it's a no name and it is TERRIBLE!!! Come to think of it my my jigsaw is a no name too. What are some favorite tools? I hear a lot about Black and Decker and Craftsman here in the states, but what are some good worldly tools?

I want to be able to make holes, from small ones to big ones. I also want to be able to use rivets.

One word, one animal: GRIZZLY!!!

Kick ass stuff. outlet is about an hour from me, the tools are ()$##()ing indestructable and their ecommerce (grizzly.com) is quite reasonable with the shipping. And that site has every single tool you can possibly imagine.

I've used milwaukee hole saws and they are pretty good (kinda pricey sometimes) and own a ryobi 12v cordless drill myself. Although i've been eyeballing a dewalt 18v, i think its time to upgrade :)

Yeah grizzly is a big site, tons of wood and metalworking equipment. Star you lucky SOB :p

What size of hole are you cutting?

I tried using hole saws on my Lian Li and in the end gave up and resorted to the dremmel. Ideally you want a pillar drill but i'm guessing you dont have access to one? If your using a hand power drill then your going to need a powerfull one, at least 14v and make sure its a good quality one other wise you'll be there all day and have a hole that looks like S#!t. :rant:

For riveting you can buy a hand rivet gun. Then its a case of drilling a hole for the rivet load up the gun and fire away lol. :cool:

I want to cut different size holes all over my side panel and then use rivets to attach a piece of radiant window material (Click Me to See Me (http://www.cuttingedgecasemods.com/windows/windows.htm)) to the holes so it looks like a slice of colorful Swiss cheese and reminds me of blowing soapy bubbles. I was thinking of using different size hole saws on a drill press, so they would be clean and smooth. I'm not sure if I'd prefer to rivet a big slug to the outter edges or if I want to do each individual window/hole. I don't know what a pillar drill is, so I'm only guessing that I don't have access to one :huh:

@ Starbuck: So what tool on the list from Grizzly will make some nice holey circles, of course I could just go ahead with the drill press idea, as there are a few in my price range over there. It's a nice place, too bad I don't know what half the stuff is or what it's used for :unsure:

pillar drill = drill press, and vicey versa ;)

Ranger from cheap hobby pillar drills upto mamoth work shop drills.
Definately recommended if using holesaw. there is an adjustable holesaw available and it can cut through aluminium - apparently. But i wouldnt put much faith in it. There is a post somewhere on these forums with more detail about it...

Starrett holesaws are the best you can get for cutting through alu.

If youre cutting a blow hole for a 120mm fan you'll be needing to cut a 92mm hole, and for an 80mm tis a 72mm saw you'll need IIRC.

As well as the holesaw, you'll nedd an arbor.

Arbor (http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=10878)

92mm holesaw (http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=10966)

I'd also advise the meatiest mains drill you can grab hold of (1100W Bosch beast here)

for a 120mm fan wouldnt a 112mm holesaw be better?! :unsure:

92mm according to a very good source, (Phil Stanbridge at EP)

Not having actually cut my 120mm yet (as I overlooked something and have had to use a jigsaw on my Black Widow instead :mad: ) I wouldn't know personally.

If youre cutting a blow hole for a 120mm fan you'll be needing to cut a 92mm holeI've used a POS 14V cordless drill and cut blowholes for 120s w/ 4.5" hole saw. Hold that case between your legs son! YeeHaw! :eek:

Before I could afford the Dye Cutter, heres the holesaw sizes i used for installing fans in panels. I use them for cutting holes in Plexi and Acrylic now. The difference in size are hardly noticable.

You can find all of these holesaw sizes in Home Depot's TOOL section or online tool resellers

120mm = 4.72" buy 4.5" hole saw
92mm = 3.62" buy 3.5" hole saw
80mm = 3.14" buy 3" hole saw

4.5" sounds close to 112mm to me ^_^

Using my amazing calculating skills (ok, and squinting at the precise tape measure I have next to me) it is indeed 112mm.

In which I answer:

fu*k fu*k fu*k b*llocks tits and arse! I need another hole cutter. :(

It doesnt really matter, it'll just restrict air flow slightly, no biggy

So when u use the 4.5" holesaw does the duct will fit within the hole? I would think the duct would be to big.

A 4" holesaw would also suffice for 120mm fans
