Ok - my 6800GS arrived today, one day early(don't you love that?) and have yet to install it. And before I jump into watercool(will do with next rig), Am looking to quiet the current system down a tad. The loudest of course is the NB chipset fan. Is there a better one out there, or a passive one?Next is my CPU, and the 6800GS... Was looking at ArcticCooling NV Silencer for the gpu, and the AC 64 Ultra Pro TC for the CPU... any one have any of these? How well do they work, and how quiet?
Thanks! :toast:

For the NB fan, there is a copper Swiftech Heatsink and fan that I'd reccomend, but It won't work with an SLI board though. It's the MCX159-CU (kinda expensive at $34). The included fan is low noise, but I plan to run it passive. It's a nice sink!

I can run my Dothan with the swiftech NB sink on it, hit's about 40*C max overclocked at 2.3Ghz. I have the older version of the sink, but it's performance is good.

oh well... the cooler I have was the earlier revision of the version fitting gf 7800 gtx OC... so my cooling subject isn't the friendliest for the silencer

i can say the artic silencer on the 8900gt is very quiet, not that much difference to it being on water really.

I have seen (and heard) firsthand the AC silencer being a noisy bastard. Fan was vibrating the housing on the unit of the graphics card I bought from a friend. He used to thump the top of the case to silence it, I replaced the unit.

yep all the way,
2 cores
1.2ghz core
2.5ghz effective ram clock
1024bit mem bus, needs 2 PIC-e connectors
and it runs at 20c load, and only costs £56.73
bugger, me and my silly fingers

Funny thing is - I googled it and alot of people think it 'exists' if only in the nvidia pipeline!

For a minute I was scratching my head wondering why I'd never seen one before, not too mention how the hell they could make one so cheap. I did not for a second believe the 20 degrees bit though. lol.

Ok What about the new ArcticCooling Accelero X1? I read in Maximum PC that they loved it, dramaticly dropped temps and is dead silent. Anyone else use this thing? I'm thinking of it over the Silencer.
Just installed the 6800GS, and OMG! Video stress test in HL2 served up 117fps(auto config video options). Time to install SeriousSam2... and I'll pick up FEAR on thursday and take that for a swing.
