Well, I need to start this worklog someplace... WizD Forums looks good to me.

A friend of mine came to me, after puchasing a custom case from me in the past, and asks me if I can turn this...

http://www.coolishous.com/crisse/mycompmod/mc/skyline.JPG

...into a custom case. As you can see it is his car from Need For Speed: Underground.

After making sure I was getting paid for the mod, I began my work. He gave me strict guidelines for making the case, 3 windows, look like the car, midnight blue, list goes on...

http://www.coolishous.com/crisse/mycompmod/mc/front.png

http://www.coolishous.com/crisse/mycompmod/mc/top.png

The design began with determining how it was going to fit on the case (pc-60).

http://www.coolishous.com/crisse/mycompmod/mc/case.png

Works for me, works for him.

Now its time to start the modding!

PSU and DVD+-RW came first, each being totally covered in carbon fiber vinyl.

PSUs are my specialty, I could mod them all day and not get tired. This PSU was taken apart/gutted. Fans replaced with Red LED fans, LEDs added for ligting, Wires sleeved in gray with red HST, and Red LED molex mods. Take a look...

The DVD+-RW was next. It features a window on top, to watch the DVD spin, always a favorite. The tray was sprayed in chrome to help the Red LED lighting that will be added later. The wires sticking out from the side will go to the remote button which will set lower on the custom bezel I am making.

This looks to be yet another impressive mod. Yet, I'm saddened to see a plain window on the top, I was expecting you to put a roof scoop on the case. I'm quite interested to see what else you do to this mod. Keep us updated.

The owner of the case wants a clear view of the dvd+-rw drive and psu. there will be a sexy intake on the front bezel.

I understand.

Actually, I seemed to have missed the front bezel image. I see where you plan the intake, I can't wait to see what you do.

One of my friends brothers imports skylines into the UK and tunes them. His current project is putting out over 1200+ BHP and is stripped out to only 1100 Kilos!

This reminds me I was supposed to look into reselling carbon fiber sticker sheets. I'll get on that asap

UPDATE

well, found some time to get some more of this project done. Managed to replace the back of the mobo tray. the original had a couple fan holes and smaller holes for ventilation. the mobo for this comp will be covered by what I like to call a 'stealth mobo'. the stealth mobo will hold a couple fans over the cpu heat sink and will also cover the addon agp and pci cards. there will be no need for the ventilation inthe rear since the air wil be routed to to vent out of the top.

http://www.coolishous.com/crisse/mycompmod/mc/mc13.JPG

to match the intake design for the front, I cut out several polygonal shapes inthe chassis. they help give that fast feel...

http://www.coolishous.com/crisse/mycompmod/mc/mc14.JPG

all for now, another update soon to come.

totally gutted the front bezel, no need for factory cuts...

http://www.coolishous.com/crisse/mycompmod/mc/mc16.JPG

as i work, my designs change. ive increased the size of the intake and moved the indicators and switches to the center.

http://www.coolishous.com/crisse/mycompmod/mc/mc17.JPG

big window on top for your viewing pleasure!

http://www.coolishous.com/crisse/mycompmod/mc/mc18.JPG

there is barelly anything left to this chassis...

http://www.coolishous.com/crisse/mycompmod/mc/mc19.JPG

and a short mock up to see how things are going. i took my time to determine how the wiring will look...im trying to hide all of it. the lights will be controlled through the lcd. the lights will be programed in an array so lights can be turned on and off at my discresion, be pretty swet to see cathodes flashing like crazy.

Great work so far! It looks nothing like it originally did. I like the idea of controlling the lights through the lcd.

Radical modding - underway

Yup, that's a project I can relate too. B)
Keep it coming. ^_^

the stealth mobo is a mobo cover. it holds the fans to increase air flow over the mobo.

It doesn't even really look like a computer, or a typical mod. Very cool!

Truly brilliant!

As for the mobo stealth, I think it's a great idea. To me the motherboard is just a mess. For a start it's unlikely to fit in with the colour scheme of the case unless you get one with the perfect colours (harder and harder in these days of manufacturers colour-coding their parts in as many garish colours as they can), then you have all the wires everywhere, even more so when you're connecting up USB brackets, fan leads and so on.

I was a bit dubious of how this would turn out but the more you do the better it gets! Nicely executed! B)

I entered a raffle at a car show at the weekend to win a Skyline GTR but some 18 year old burbury cap (who will never get insured) won it.

its been a couple days since a update, but its been a huge step in the project. check out what all has been done.

paint for chassis and internals finished. nice metallic chip gun metal. i decided to change the outer design a bit for durability purposes. this is a lan case and the original design was going to turn out a bit flimsy. i beefed up the wild design a bit.

the mobo will eventualy be covered by the stealth mobo. as for the back of the mobo tray, it will have the case name.

now that's a schweeeet case!

but i have one question
how is it to work with the carbon vinyl? is it easy to handle??
i am thinking on using carbon vinyl on my v2000

crayzass1
14th September 2004, 18:37
if you havent applied vinyl before, imagine it as a giant sticker. what is nice is that if you dont set it exactly right, you can pull it up and reapply. a good idea is to apply it to a wet surface, that way you can move it into place.
