Ok I got a few things from Performance PC's today(my sleeving kit which I'm working on now) and a couple of round IDE cables. I also got an Antistatic wrist strap, because my house is insane! You take a couple of steps anywhere and you get the crap zapped outta ya... so I didn't want to fry my Venice when trying to install it. But for some reason they sent my the wong strap.

I ordered this one (http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2235), but I got this one (http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=4176). Normally I would not complain, but it doesn't seem to be working. I put it on my wrist(and fore arm), snug it up real good, walk around a little and touch something, and ZAP! Am I doing something wrong or does this damn thing just not work? I only got 2 days left to tell them about it, so what shall I do?

A cordless grounding strap? How does that work?

Perhaps you get to store static in one that you wear and have to periodically shoot lightning at one that's attached to ground - that would be fun :thumb:

I don't get the principle either

Did you buy it on April 1st?

Apparently it works using the Corona Discharge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corona_discharge) Effect.

Also, you're supposed to wear it for 15 mins with the stainless bit next to your skin before you start tinkering.

I'd swap it for a regular one.

hey now. I use the cordless ones and I love it. I've never had a problem at all. Hell for that matter, we(me and my bosses at work) have concluded that given a proper workspace(tile floors and the like) and given taking proper precautions, one can safely work on computer components without an antistatic wristband.

Where did you read that? It doesn't say anything on the package, nor did I see that on the Cables Unlimited website? Maybe I'll give it a try. And PerformancePC's says they went out of stock for the Ultra one just after I ordered mine, so they sent me this one. All that I can do is try this one again... And no I bought it on April 25(shipping error with my mailing address).

Thanks

Im really bad - never use the things - however my flooring and desks were designed for PC repair from ground up so may be a faraday cage or something.

I've never use a strap upgrading my current PC or my sisters, but when Building one, I don't want to take a chance in this new house. My old one didn't conduct static worth beans.

Ok - been wearing the strap for about 30mins, and took a strole to the kitchen. Reatched for the fridge door(usually get a pretty big zap out of it) and.... nothing! Wow! It does work! Score! Free upgrade for me! :w00t:

You might look into getting a humidifier. It sounds like the air in your house is very dry (even for Arizona).

I have one, it's kind of a PITA having to dump water into it all the time, but not getting zapped when I touch anything makes it well worth it.

I always get zapped in my house, but I've never worn one of those doohickies and don't plan on wearing one either.
