Hi
I'm new on the forum, but this easter break I've vowed to fit all the water cooling kit i had sitting in the back of my wardrobe. Basicly I have a Ehiem 1250 pump, a rather chunky Swiftech MCW462 block with peltier and a huge radiator from a shop heater that i'm going to chop up and turn into something that will fit dual 120mm fans. Its all 1/2" tubing.

The only other part I need is a res, I really like the looks of the aquatube as it can fit into the 80mm fan slot at the top of my CM Stacker. However the reviews I've read say it's not really suitable for a hi flow system (which i'm guessing mine would be). Although I have heard talk of either drilling out the holes larger or combining the outlets and inlets. Does anyone have any pictures of this being done?

Also I don't want to use the peltier, but i have a suspicion the bolts for the cpu block will be too long without it. I think there an american size - so can't find them over in the UK, and don't really want to chop them down incase i want to add the peltier. Does anyone know what size they are and where I could get them from?

From memory i seem to remember the blocks bottom could be swapped with another part to allow it to run without a peltier, or would it just be okay to sandwich a some metal in place of the peltier instead?

Thanks
Theo

I don't know what the block looks like...
but I'd say if the bolts are too long; cutt'em off.

IE put a nut on the screw... determine the correct length... and use a pair of heavy duty cutters (or a dremel) to cut off the length you need... then use a the nut (which was screwed down to the screw head) to back out any thread issues. IE removing the nut will generally fix the thread damaged by the cutters.

I do this regularly when I need one or two screws in a different size.

(I should have read your message closer before posting the above)

Putting metal plate in place of the peltie might be a good idea; but remember that putting metal between your water and die will increase the thermal resistance of the block; making it less effecient than without. Might not be an issues; esp if you not planning on OCing your processor.

I have not seen the block; but if I were a betting man... the screws are proably standard #6-32 thread size.
Shouldn't swiftech provide more details on the mouting screws on their www site?

Swifty peltier block generally require an additional PSU. The normal PC PSU is not really heavy enough. You will find that if you remove the cold plate and the pelt the water block alone will work just fine, just adjust you attaching bolt lenght accordingly. You will need to watch out for the step that may be required for the socket mounting side.

The Aquatube is generally a bad choice because of the 1/8" threads, but you can find someone to make them larger, like Nexxo did with his project. There used to be a place in the US that sold them and offered modded versions, but they're out of business.

Any of the reservoirs with G1/4" threads would work allright. Danger Den's new parts all have G1/4" threads, so getting 1/2" barbs is easy.

Some are Innovatek's Fass-O-Matic (looks a lot like the Aquatube), Tank-O-Matics or any of the Alphacool/Cape reservoirs.

Here: http://www.alphacool.de/xt/index.php?cPath=5_40_195 & http://www.alphacool.de/xt/index.php?cPath=5_40_41

The Alphacool and Cape stuff is available at Voyeur Mods or Frozen CPU. High Speed PC sells the Innovatek stuff.

why not use the thermaltake res?

It can also acomodate 1/2id tubing. Should be easily retapable to new barbs if you desire larger barbs.

It can also mount on old 80mm fan holes.
