View Full Version : Who needs the PSOne mod?

Came across this rather cheap (£25!) 12" monitor that some of you might be interested in.
800x600 res, thin enough to mount in a side panel and it comes with its own PCI graphics card as I believe it was originally designed to be used in a retail terminal. The power for the screen is supplied through the VGA cable, so only one connection.

The guy is offering a RTB warranty on the units and has sold over a 100 without any complaints so far!

Sounds great!
This worries me slightly though...
I do have copies of drivers/utilities discs for these monitors should you require them (NT,3.1,95 & 98 only)
Do you actually know anyone whos had one working with anything newer than 98 except of course ME *spit* ?

I'm toying with the idea of a screen for Samurize/ AveDesk (http://avedesk.philc.ca/modules/PDdownloads/) but to implement it into my existing ideas I would have to fab a new front panel from some 4mm aluminium sheet and fork out a fair whack to have it anodized. :-(
I'd be interested to see what some of the guys on here would do with this one tho.

XP auto installs the Microsoft drivers for the screen according to the seller :-)

that screen looks good i have been looking into using a laptop screen mounted in the side panel. after research about laptop screens it seems that you need an LCD driver board to use it with a desktop. that find of yours would be good as it has the driver board with it.

You need to go have a look @ Defyant's projects on here, he uses an LCD panel in one of his mods to great effect. :thumb:

I investigated that option last year and it would work out more expensive than buying a standalone 19" LCD. Going with this screen is cheaper by about £200!!
As fill mentioned, check out Defyants LCD mod here (http://www.wizdforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1114)

yeah guess so. i'll have a look at it again this afternoon. 1 other thing does anyone know what the graphics card is with the 12"
Psykotik
3rd January 2006, 02:01
It's a dedicated board for the monitor, nothing special, just good enough to give you a working display.

It's not PCI-E, just plain old PCI, so you'll have PCI slots in addition to your AGP will you not?
You can run an AGP and a PCI graphics adapter at the same time so thats not an issue. :thumb:

Well i have a have a PSONE screen and its the single most annoying mod i have ever attempted. If this had been on the go atr the time i would have been seriously tempted but its a little big for my needs.

I made an offer for 2 of these ^_^ He want me to wait until the auction ends before he accepts or declines. I wonder what will happen.

what?
The 12" screens ... what else? :eyebrow:
I wont be bidding on anything as the higher it goes the more i expect he will ask from me. I think he intends to offer some to the people watching the item also but i didnt entirely understand his reply to my offer, other than he will let me know when the auction is finished.

The soldering was bad enough as its a pretty tight group of pins and the soldering iron i have access to has a rather large flat tip but thats nothing compared to using power strip! XD
You have to find the correct operating frequency for your screen, everyone is different, and after probably 5 hours straight i couldnt get a decent picture. I will try again on my home PC if i ever get it working properly again.

im thinking about buying a cheap lcd. removing the casing and try to mount it on the inside of the window. dunno if it would work 240v running through a steel case lol

Pumps like the Eheim 1046/8 etc... are 240V, so why not? :thumb:

Anything as cheap as a 12" VGA TFT which is pretty much perfect for modding inot a sidepanel though?

funny you ask DRB, I had an email from them on Friday after chasing for an answer. I was just letting them stew... He wants me to pay £5 more than i offered and i cant make my mind up weather i should accept it or push for the price i offered. FWIW i think my offer was reasonable ....

16th January 2006, 10:59
I managed to get an old 15" TFT from work. I has a seperate PSU which means I can mount the original power brick at the back and have a cut-out for the mains plug. The VGA lead is built in, and it is a bit temperamental originally being a test bed monitor. Only downside is that I dont want to fit it to my Tsunami case. Might be interested in selling it to someone, but if they are states side then a new PSU will be needed.

fivecheebs
17th January 2006, 12:24
heh! I actually wrote to him saying i didnt want to pay the extra, but i would buy one at the price that the last auction ended at (£36.49 inc delivery). He replied to say he sold the last on sunday.

what sort of price you looking to sell for
£30 plus DHL postage... prob a £5 as I get a massive discount. Thats what I paid fot the monitor, just reiterate its got a slightly dogey cable for the signal (colours change if bent at right angle) but it works fine.
