Intel hit by patent lawsuit for $500 million:
I saw this on Custompc site first and confirmed it over at the Reg' http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/05/21/intel_sued/
Different veriosn though, one says that intel have been asked to cease production of their chips, yet the patent infringement is on the pentium II's?!
The F**k? :h34r:

The patent infringement may have begun in teh PII era, and been inherited down the line all the way to now.

That did occur to me, but from what i've read the designs for newer intel chips are far different from pII - complete overhauls bascially, and the company in question hasn't built/designed anything for the best part of a decade.
Be interesting to see if they actually win anythhing from Intel though.

yeah, I'm fairly sure they're looking at future releases of the Pentium too, they're bound to have inherited part of it further down the line somewhere.

I'm off to find something I can patent and sue over. I wonder if anyone patented door handles or toilet flushes... or welcome mats mabye... I could make a mint.

Yeah, Im sure whoever is sueing the BIGGEST CHIP MANUFACTURER ON EARTH (and ive seen the figures, they really are) will win...oh wait...no..
This is totally idiotic though. According to the article theyre being sued for using tech that is used by everyone else too, although the article didnt mention how specific that technology is. I find it hard to believe a "little known Canadian computer company" would be responsible for the tech that allows an end user to change a processor to a faster one. Seems like Intel would have gotten there first seeing as they had the CPU market by the balls essentially since they started. Obvioulsy I cant say that for sure, but I think this is just another SCO type run of BS to make money other ways than legitimatly.
mrplow im suing you for patent infringement for using the letter E which I invented back in 1987. I expect a $500 Million cashiers check to be in the mail:lol:
