So ya
Thought ya
Might like to go to the show.
To feel the warm thrill of confusion
That space cadet glow.
Tell me is something eluding you, sunshine?
Is this not what you expected to see?
If you wanna find out what's behind these cold eyes
You'll just have to claw your way through this disguise.

"Lights! Turn on the sound effects! Action!"
"Drop it, drop it on 'em! Drop it on them!!!!!"

Greeny
11th July 2004, 08:47
I think it's two thin plastic sheets with a layer of polystyrene inbetween, model makers use it a lot. I'm pretty sure it's sometimes called foam-cardboard over this side of the pond. If it's not that then methinks it's just plastic like you get in a model making shop. Could be wrong though.

Looking highly sexual so far.

Does anyone know where i can get hold of 3mm & 5mm purples?

Thats the only place i've found and they only have 5mm. Plus they're not the cheapest, although, they are still much cheaper than the 'violet' LEDs i found in the Mappers catalogue

Thanks Kazou!

Chris deserves all the credit for the window. I just fed him the idea and he went off running. It wasn't nearly as easy as he planned. There was a couple hurdles along the way. The sliver size clear accents running along the hammer handles had to be laser cut. He also discovered the surface of the acrylic would burn if you tried polishing it w/ anything other than soapy water.

He doesn't happen to have a laser etch machine too does he ?
No, but he may be able to outsource it for you.

Sculpey time!

I had first heard about Super Sculpey (http://www.sculpey.com/Products/products_poly_supersculp.htm) from Paul Capello. He used it as the baby embryo in his Matrix Rebirth 8.0

The plan is to mold the "face in the wall" over the Kingwin intake grill (roughly 3.5" x 5") Open mouth will act as the cool air vent. A large gap already exists beneath bezel so the mod won't be detrimental to intake airflow. The face will later be colored in by Airbrush.

I couldn't have done this mod without the Wooden Clay tools... Truley a neccessity for detailing

Making teeth look proportional in clay is P.I.T.A.
http://www.mnpctech.3dpixelnet.com/picture_library/face4.jpg

mnpctech
8th September 2004, 13:23
discovered the face was looking a bit long... I chopped off the chin and scaled back the extra clay. Then discovered the jaw was becoming very thin and may not hold up in the oven. So I found some modeling wire to help reinforce the jaw line.

Trying to make everything to scale while still being in proportion is a P.I.T.A....Especially with Gerald's awesome illustration..

I've had to learn as I go so its probally taking me a lot longer than anymore who works with clay

Thats about where I am right now... Next I start molding the stretched skin on either side of the face, refining the teeth and other details, then apply the face to the intake grill before baking it in the oven..

As you can see the smiley is holding a chain with a pendant showing the Lian Li Logo (I know it's small but you might notice it if you do a double take)
So the English version of "proll" would be "bling, bling". It is German slang and bling bling would be the best translation. ^_^

Molding along here...

added stretched skin and smoothed out face...

http://www.mnpctech.3dpixelnet.com/picture_library/face8.jpg

Baking Instructions from Super Sculpey
Super Sculpey should be cured in a preheated 275 degree F (130 degree C) oven for 15 minutes per quarter inch of thickness. DO NOT MICROWAVE. For example, a piece of ½" thickness would be cured for 30 minutes.

Into Oven (cookie sheet with alum foil)
http://www.mnpctech.3dpixelnet.com/picture_library/face9b.jpg

Out of Oven after 60 mins. (no shrinkage, but stretched skin curled slighty)

http://www.mnpctech.3dpixelnet.com/picture_library/face9c.jpg

Stainless steel sheet will mount over intake grill. Theres large opening beneath bezel, so limiting intake air to "molded mouth" won't be detremental to cooling.

Well I'll be buggered!
No word of a lie man, you're thinking along such similar lines* as me sometimes, it's spooky.
*(I've been toying with the idea of a bas-relief type dragon on Hex for a few weeks now but I was going to sculpt it from some type of hardened filler or resin using a dremel & some pointy diamond bits. I've never even heard of Sculpey.)

Any ideas how paint/bondo might take to it when blending in?
Any guidelines as to preparation for same (sealing primer, etc.)?
What's it made of?

Any ideas how paint/bondo might take to it when blending in?Sculpey recommends acrylic paint. I'm going to disobey that
No reason why Bondo wouldn't adhere to it. Go for it!

Any guidelines as to preparation for same (sealing primer, etc.)?I'm gonna treat it is if I was painting plastic. Sand it w/ 500 grit and apply flexible primer and laquer or enamel paint. (never use both of these paints together, your paint will lift and crack)

What's it made of?Polyethylene (Polymer) PVC is made from Polymer.

Client. A very patient Client I might add...

There was some talk on another forum about making window hammers march as per a pendulum effect via motorized mechinism. These obviously are remaining inside the window, but I could model another pair and mount them over these. I have no idea what I'd look at for time and I've already extended this project longer than estimated

All alone, or in two's,

Walk up and down outside the wall.
Some hand in hand
And some gathered together in bands.
The bleeding hearts and artists
Make their stand.

Some stagger and fall, after all it's not easy
Banging your heart against some mad bugger's wall

It's sort of an ethos that WizD has that no one person/modder is bigger than the forum, or any other individual for that matter (though there are ovbiously people with greater skills than others). We're here because we love our computers, modding and water cooling among other mutual interests.

Many other popular forums have fallen victim to arrogance and supremacists who have little time for the newer guys.

Everyone is welcome @ WizD we're receptive to any kind of input folks may have irrespective of their areas of interest or expertise http://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/thumb.gif

There happens to be a store location in Allentown here, and I was going to go out there and have a look at what their selection was like. Harbor Freight and Tools of PA has powdercoating systems for sale for 59.99. Mfrd by Chicago Electric Power Tools, they're saying it lists for 99.99 or so... Just thought I'd let everyone know. There happens to be a store location in Allentown here, and I was going to go out there and have a look at what their selection was like. If anyone would like me to pick one up for them and ship it, they can PM me ;^P

Because we all know people like bill are do-it-yourselfers... and what better to do yourself, than powdercoating?

Anytime someone mentions Harbor Freight, my immediate reaction is "You get what you pay for" Don't let me deter you (haha), but trying to save a few bucks always knips you in the butt later on. These starter set-ups with lamps that require re-adjusting the piece as it cures?! No thanks! You want a Powdercoating oven and a decent unit starts at $6000. You'll also want a paint booth and ventilated/filtered space/respirator/paint suit/ for using this stuff. Otherwise youre risking your health breathing in this crap.
