Ok guys you might know that I am Mac fan. When I first saw the G5, I fell in love. I wanted a case like that. I wanted a 30" apple screen also. But since a G5 was like $2500+ CND and 30" was like $3000+ I could have such things. So for my first case mod, I went with a G5 theme case. It had a CPU shroud which I am using now on my case because its blows air right over the RAM on the NF-4 DFi boards. I also experimented with the air circulation. I moved things around to find the best possible way to control the heat and noise levels. In the end I came up with placing the HD over the mobo, and the PSU in front drive bays. As far as heat was concerned it worked out well. The G5 case mod was great. So today I bring you the picture. The pictures were originally posted on Modthebox.com but for some reason have now disappeared.

In the next coming days between Knight Rider case mods, I will be posting on my site how I made the G5 CPU shroud, and the HD mount. Keep tuned into this thread for sneak preview of the how-to guides (http://www.freewebs.com/marqueemark/casemods.htm)

see, i was real nice, (not to mention i needed a new computer) so my parents bought me a single 1.8 for x'mas last year...(heheh lucky bastard am i)

also yeah, bandwidth exceeded.... would like to see what youve done

OMG this bandwidth thing is killing me. Well if I ever did get a G5 no is would be a dual CPU with at least 2.5Ghz or the new 2.7Ghz. I also need a 6800U in it too.

Ok the picutes shoudl be fixed now. They might be really big though. I will fix that by tonight though. Enjoy
Gordy you are lucky. I want to do a real G5 case with water cooling a 5 HDs in RAID soon.

Maybe after Knight Rider.

your case looks nice man.

but as for the whole thing about g5's....ugh. Mostly just because I hate apple. I hate the look(the whole white bit is just fugly in my book), I never liked the interface, etc. I'm sure that if I had one I would use it(though mainly for the only things macs are good for, editing). Other than that, blah.

apple is a devil in white plastic

To be truthful though, i'm not overly fond of any of the current os offerings. Windows is of course from ole' Bill(who is satan himself), its buggy, rude, is like big brother looking over you, etc...

Linux. It has tons of potential. It just needs more users, better colaberation between its writers, needs to have a few bugs fixed(seems that every distro has its own little bugs...) and needs to mainstream "one click" installs of software. Probably a few things here that i'm forgetting...

apple. They rant and rave about how secure they are. For the most part, the truth is that they dont' get hit with viruses and the like because nobody writes viruses for them in the first place. Why bother on a virus that can only infect a small small percentage of computers in the first place. True, apples os's /are/ more "secure" becasue they /are/ better written, but hey, see above point. Another point against apple(for me, and other power users), is that it is overly simplified(for the most part). It puts you into diapers for your computing.

Bill Gates is satan, Linus thinks that everyone is an uber nerd like him, and Jobs thinks that all computer users are infants.

Okay, i'm done with my rant.

Many pardons, but i've been ranting all day. Between the stress and crappyness of registration and the schools crappy registration system, and a tour of the art museum here on campus(required).....you get the idea...

heh.....i happen to be an extremely hardcore mac user. though i love linux as well...i can tolerate windows to a point....bill gates really isnt abad guy, its steve ballmer thats the devil. im usually the one that starts flipping out at people who say "oh i hate mac blah blah blah" and give no sufficient reason as to why they hate it.

but, im sick of trying to defend apple, and what i grew up using. ive been using an apple since the //e we had in kindergarten to the g5 ive got now.

Linus made an OS for himself and a few friends. it spread like wildfire. most everyone who uses linux IS a nerd/geek whatever. Jobs is just trying to make everying simple and easy to use, and so is M$. people just target jobs because hes taking a different approach to it. and M$ is just clueless about it.

my rant.....deal with it....

at this point most linux users are nerds/geeks/w/e but the thing is that linux is taking more and more of the market share and is being developed by big people like redhat and the like. Its been a long time since linux created linux, and its evolved a ton since then.

Its just my opinion that jobs is majorly oversimplifying everything, I just dont' like the style.

As for M$, they are simplyfing things, but i don't think that they're overdoing it(at this point, probably soon to change). I am sick of gates and his crap of turning into big brother with his tons upon tons of anti piracy crap that is a pain in the ass for us pc techs. Its a waste of my time to have to call damn india every time we have to reinstall xp on a machine because his lousy coders can't make an os(and a browser) that dosen't screw over every time it comes within sight of spyware and viruses.

I wont saying anying about your rant cause most of it is true. But no one writes any virus for OS X because its Unix based and so complex. The only people really that can write one for apple are former Admins of large companies that use Unix based servers.

Well lets not turn this into a Apple VS PC thread, but I was once like you for a long while then I used OS X and I liked the GUI.

There is more to come, keep tuned to my site. I will post how to turn a G3 PSU into a useful PC CPU shroud.

I really like your case btw. I'd like to see a couple of things cleaned up though. That ribbon cable(i think thats what that is) running through the case is just nasty, and i'd love to not be able to see the psu at all. Other than that, super sweet and clean case.

Cool you got it m8. I dont use that computer no more as it was a Duron 1Ghz, 512mb, FX 5200, with 350W. This week end I will clean up the window, wash and dry chassis and put the old parts in with new round cable. Just for you lBreevesii.

Look at this thread on saturday and it will be done. Also more pictures of the shroud too.

Yeah, ditto on the wiring, but I'm sure you had that on your list. Also looks like your modder's mesh is starting to rust. I was lazy on mine and didn't sand and clearcoat it until it started rusting. Oh well, I guess sometimes it does pay to follow directions. As far as OS's go, to each his own. I could care less who is simple or a nerd or money hungry, as long as it works on my system for what I want that's enough for me.

Ok I got some picks on how to make the G3 psu into a 21th century RAM/CPU shroud.

BTW I saw on the Apple site that they have new G5. A dual core dual cpu G5. Thats mad, like 4 core on a PC (Personal Computer). And up to like 16GB of RAM with a option of 7800GTX or Quadro FX 4500.

Post the pic later on tonight before 10 est.

How to make a CPU shroud with G3 PSU.

We start off with a large PSU box. Carfuly take it apart, you might want to keep the 90degrea angle Molex coneectores.

You dont have much room to work on the side fan so you cutting will need to be dead on.
