View Full Version : Velcro-Mount for Pumps

I purchased my watercooling kit from WizD just before Christmas 03 and have been thrilled with it since. The only thing missing from my setup was a secure mounting method for my pump.
I planned on buying the mounting screws, but that would have involved drilling (more) holes in my lovely Lian Li PC-70.

Luckily, Pug had a solution - a velcro-mounting system.
The product is a simple but perfect solution to the problem of securing the pump.

Firstly, it's small enough to be mailed in an envelope, and requires no preperatory work on your case. No drilling required - heck my system was turned on whilst I did it :D

Secondly the pad is (I would assume) large enough for even the biggest Eheim pump. I've got their smallest model, and it sits on the pad with PLENTY of space to spare.
The only drawback I can see with this is that, due to a fair bit of sticky surface still remaining - you get lots of dust attached to it.
However that's more down to how well your case filters it out (mine = terribly), and you can always spend a bit more time and cut out some of the protective material that comes with the pads to place back on once you've got the pump in place.

The installation is simple - you just lift up the pump (or move it aside, all depending on your configuration), peel off the protective material on one side of the pad and stick it onto the case!
I made sure to push down on it fairly hard to make sure it was firmly stuck, but I don't think it needed it. Then just take the covering off the other side of the pad and place the pump onto it. Push down on the pump to ensure it's firmly stuck ... and that's about it!

For those worried about vibration from the pump - don't. The velcro stopped all pump vibration being transferred to the case, as far as I could tell. This may not be the case for larger pumps however.

So far the velcro has been installed for about 4-5 weeks and I haven't had a problem. The case has been moved around up and down several flights of stairs, and driven about 300 miles - all whilst full of water. It's also been tipped onto its back for several hours and no pump slippage has occurred.

All in all I'd say this is a perfect solution for mounting a pump to the case, and unless you REALLY want to ensure no vibrations, then it makes more sense to go with this than the mounting screws - also bypasses drilling holes in the case (although I know nobody around here is too fazed by that! ;))

Pictures coming shortly.

[EDIT]

Hmmm, my PC is being extremely lame and refuses to recognise my camera :(. I think it's something to do with the Blackbox shell for some reason

The only one I could get is this, taken with my ageing Logitech Quickcam :(

And because that is so bad, here are two other images just to make up for it (better ones will come, I promise ... as soon as my PC behaves itself!)

Nice one Edd. ^_^
More than I hoped for... :)

You used it all?
Could have mebbe cut it in half - it still covers most of the pump that way.

I wanted to be sure :D ^_^

Lol. :D

Next you'll be telling me you didn't want to void the warranty on the velcro!

Well after going back to the Explorer shell from Blackbox I tried my camera again, and it turns out that BB4Win WAS indeed playing silly buggers with something that detected the camera correctly.

So here are some proper images :)

Cool - I see what you mean about the potential dust carpet though.
(You know you can toss the silver grit-screen bit, btw?)

Yeah I'll ditch that when I take the pump apart.
The entire case is FULL of dust actually after just a few weeks. I meant to block up all the places it could get in but, like so many other things, never got around to it. So it looks like I'll be redoing everything I did back at easter when I finally get home!

This place is insanely dusty. For a start there's no proper throughput of air in this flat, nobody dusts (whoopsy ;)), and being in the centre of Manchester there's far more bits and pieces floating around in the air than back in sleepy South Wales.
