Introducing 2 other Modders enlisted for this project. I only work with the best

Chris Baltar: of CustomWaterCuts.com (http://www.CustomWaterCuts.com) Hes the man behind the waterjetted Window/Grill designs

Ron Brenay: of atomikpc.com (http://www.atomikpc.com)
He does a mean custom job sleeving PSUs
ron_brenay@comcast.net

Our story begins with this innocent Kingwin 424

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLmods/Kingwin.jpg

I like to punch holes in my cases... don't you? Well, hows a 120mm blow hole grab ya?

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLmods/GvL1.jpg

No sloppy cuts here. Its called a "Greenlee die cutter" kids. Save up them pennies for your own someday

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLmods/GvL2.jpg

My Hoyas sweatshirt put me in the mood while cranking out the Bulldog theme. Actually, it was just coincidence I'm wearing that :)

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLmods/GvL2a.jpg

mounting holes... Roper Whitney hand punch. No messing with dull drill bits or filing edges.

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLmods/GvL3.jpg

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLmods/GvL4.jpg

In no time our fan hole is made.

Lesson for today

Alum + Greenlee + Roper Whitney = Like Butter

I did the same to BB exhaust. Punch out 80mm - 92mm then install the fan grommets and u-channel I sell on my site

Fan Grommets (http://www.mnpctech.com/Grommet.html)

U-Channel (http://www.mnpctech.com/UChannel.html)

Now case panels get shipped dropped off to CustomWaterCuts.com (http://www.CustomWaterCuts.com)
for the badass Bulldog design

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLwin/GvLpanelWJ2.jpg

At about this time Chris cuts the fierce 120mm grill from 3/16" thick stock aluminum.

Next, the panels are delivered Best Coat Inc located in Blaine, MN. for a beautiful yet durable powdercoat finish

Paint sample of Charcoal Grey Metallic

Panels are finished. Lets see what it looks like assembled.

The coating turned out great, but the shine was a little dull for my tastes.

WETSAND TIME!

Thanks gang!

Heres a simple grill mod for any other KINGWIN owners.
Scrap piece of 18 gauge round perforated steel for more Industrial look. 18 gauge wire from Home Depot for attachment

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLgrill/GvLgrllwb3.jpg

OEM grill is a light Blue metallic

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLgrill/GvLgrllwb1.jpg

Re-mount OEM grill "inside out" on inside of bezel. Very simple bendable tabs at each corner. Use a flat head screw driver

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLgrill/GvLgrllwb2.jpg

Here I'm marking off excess metal to remove so Steel grill sits flush.

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLgrill/GvLgrllwb4.jpg

Nice and Flush fit. Notice Blue OEM grill looks like a filter now. Actually the KINGWIN comes with a removable filter assembly, but I removed it in order to mount 4" CC behind grill. I'll include filter assembly if the new owner wishes to relocate CC and utilize it.

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLgrill/GvLgrllwb5.jpg

I've fastened grill on w/ 4 tiny pieces of 18 gauge wire at each corner. Use a Needle nose pliers to twist wire tight than clip off excess.

Also notice that the inside of bezel is also painted. That goes for all panels. Theyre all powdercoated inside/out. Nice little bonus w/ powdercoating :D

If you want a pimp case, the bay components must match your paint.

Best Coat Inc received the Mitron 3.5 controller's (http://www.mnpctech.com/FDrheobus.html) cover to powdercoat seperately. I've wetsanded and buff this piece too.

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLfanbus/GvLfancon2.jpg

I knew Grunt posted case on GvL's front page before even seeing it because these inquiries appeared in my inbox ...lol

Can I buy some of those knobs?

Where do I get those knobs?

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLfanbus/GvLfancon3.jpg

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLfanbus/GvLfancon3.5.jpg

Just IMAGINE the valve caps are BLUE in this photo

Mitron knobs and Valve stems caps.

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLfanbus/GvLfancon4.jpg

Obviously the larger valve stem caps won't fasten onto Mitron's shafts. (that would have been cool) and Mitron knobs won't fit inside valve stem caps (damn!)

Sooo, how about if we remove threaded plastic inserts from Mitron knobs and epoxy them into the purty valve stem caps? That will work

Mitron's knob inserts were not gonna come out on their own. Factory glued!! Whip out the Dremel and your thinnest cutting blade. Its incision time.

"Mr Owl, How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop?"

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLfanbus/GvLfancon6.jpg

Grinding down Mitron inserts so they fit snug inside valve caps

http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/GvL/GvLfanbus/GvLfancon7.jpg

After dabbing epoxy inside of valve caps, I popped in our modifed plastic inserts from Mitron knobs and let everything cure for 24 hours.

Done!

I assume you make those fan grills with just a standard fan grill and some mesh aye?

The look pretty spiffy I might have to steal your idea and have a go at making some.
