View Full Version : Closing holes in aluminum bezel?

Hi folks,

I have an aluminum bezel that has two 3.5" slots and power button holes on it. I would like to close them. I am getting a can of Evercoat's Metal 2 Metal filler however, I'm not sure how to use it to close the holes.

Should I use a fiberglass mesh on the inside of the bezel to provide a backing for the filler? Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks in advance.

You can apply the mesh (or even masking tape) to the backside of the piece and fill the hole.

You don't know anyone who can TIG weld, do you? Filling the holes that way would yield a solid metal part when finished.

TIG welding is pretty hard, I assume you'd need a professional... A foundry or possibly a specialty car shop would be good places to look.

p.s. maybe it's only hard because I stink at it, but oh well

You can use solder brazing to close the hole as well...
As long as your not going to have it plated; it should work perfectly well.

See your local HomeDepot to obtain the brazing.

Thanks. I'm not sure I want to go through the expense of getting a professional welder to do it if I can get away with the Metal 2 Metal. I think if I do a solid enough backing job, the filler should work. I'm only talking about 1 mm aluminum anyways.
