View Full Version : How Much Paint?

I'm looking up pricing for the type of paint I'm considering for my first paint mod, and well... let's just say I might be changing my plans. Anyways, what I wanted to ask was about how much paint (in pints) would be needed for the exterior of a typical mid-tower with a window? Thanks in advance.

Depends how many coats you want to give it and whether you want to buy extra and keep some back for touch-ups and future colour-coding of accessories (which is a wise move if you're getting this mixed up, rather than buying off the shelf).
I'm giving an educated guess from memory if I say 2-3 pints would be about the figure but it could be a pint either way (how's that for vague?).
I think I'll wait for someone who's done it more recently to comment. :wiz:

That sounds about how much I figured it would be. So much for the chameleon paint scheme I had envisioned. <_<
Ain't no way in hell I'm paying $450 for a quart of paint, no matter how cool looking it is.

Good lord, what is it... color shifting?

Yep. I was contemplating a gold to red scheme for the exterior, since the concept I'm working on is based on modern hot rod techniques (paints, vinyls, etc). http://www.autopaintdirect.com/house_of_kolor/kam.html

Aha, I had a feeling it might be something a little special.
You can get away with the lower end of my estimate but when you're spending that much per cc, you might want to get onto the supplier, mfr or the paintshop (if you're getting it done pro) and quote them your total surface area for the bottom-line answer (then post back what they say).
You never know, min qty. might just get you there (and if not, out with the dremel to cut down the amount of s.a. :dremel: )
