My car for fun is

Most of these guys have seen it before but the more I drive it the more I love this car. (My bank manager now he hates it. Now it needs a new distributer, teh valve springs are bouncing at 6000rpm and she needs a rolling road. Now all I need is cash):(

Like that Capri by the way. Which engine ???

Awesome Capri Toby. They're very rare here. Most of them rusted out.
Actually I know of one and its mint stock condition. This 1976 2.5 (http://www.superawesome.net/albums/MOWOG-VFAIR/IMG_2121.sized.jpg)that just started Autocrossing w/ our club. The photo was taken on Sunday. He needs to upgrade his susp!!

My 86 Jetta GLI (http://www.superawesome.net/albums/MOWOG-VFAIR/IMG_2087.sized.jpg) from the same event.

Looking at Sunday's results (http://prudhoe.codeword.com/mnpctech/aWIZB/mnautox%20copy.jpg) for my car class you can see it does quite well for a 17 yr old car ^_^

1997 VW Jetta - whose only modification is lack of cat & resonator! (well, and stereo, :(). I need a garage.

Sometimes for giggles a modified 88 mustang GT (5 Liter V8), 4.11 rear end, flowmasters, jet chip, headers, K&N intake. Lots of fun in that beast.

Knipex, that's a sweet little roadster. I've always been a fan of Super 7's and most all of the knock-off copies. Now that I think about it, it might be the perfect "case modder's" ride. ^_^

Me? I drive a Chevy pick-up.

The '73 Porsche 2.0 914 is in the garage, under wraps. Maybe this summer will be the time to get her back on the road. :o

I once negotiated (unsuccessfully, unfortunately) to buy a 914 (1.8 injection) with body damage so I could slap the lump in the trike I was building at the time (with the chassis number of PUG1 B) ), based on a VW transporter chassis and stupendously long springer forks...
I'm probably lucky I didn't get it in the end - you should have seen my insurance quote!

Too bad my only offroad experince was with a 1985 suzuki samurai that had a 5speed manual short chasi and rust as decoration. Actually its the 4.0L Inline-6 :D... with Dana 33's front and rear. I know what you mean by the Samurai. My dad had one for about 10 years as a little "toy" for off roading, it would go anywhere! We could fallow ATV trails, and the guys in the Jeep Wranglers would get pissed because they couldn't fallow. we just sold the Samurai about 6 months ago to some kid. It had a 6" lift and 32" tall tires. We never drove it on the raods, except when going out to go off-roading. Man that thing was fun!

Actually its the 4.0L Inline-6 That thing must be tourqy like hell.

Samurai is a pos car but of roading even in stock form it is a good trail rider but not mutch more. Another thing about the samurai is that it one of the fiew cars out there thats completly balance front and rear so it is easy to drive. The trany on it sucks though, the shifting is moving a sogy diper around. It also wobles and revs way too high when you start it.

POS all around

This is an old picture, you can see the Samurai's roof behind this car in the front... know what it is? Well its our project car for after we move and have the room to put it into a garage.

The first car looks to be a camaro with probly the stock 350 in it and posibly a posi rear mated to a 5 speed manual. I think its a 1970's camaro.

Beutifull car.

Ever thought about using cast ruber motor mounts insted of those crappy autozone ones?

Did you know some people in the 60's welded the motor to the frame so it game them better power distribution during 1/4mile stups but it was a pain in the ass to disasemble a motor.

I would look into truck motor mounts for it if I were you and just adapt em to your aplication. That way I doubt you would ever need to change them again.

you got the 70's part right;) - I've done research on the mounts for the 4.0L and nothing is interchangeble... The ones I got from auto-zone claim to be cast rubber, but ar not, and at $20 a piece they are worth it for a regular car, but not my beast... these urithane ones will be just as good as welding the motor right to the frame - they are quoted for 100K miles, a lot longer than I will be owning this thing... hope to be getting a WRX some time...

It still runs, but I don't know whyhttp://wizdforums.co.uk/images/smilies/tongue.gif

I replaced the head gasket myself. I blew it thinking that the warning light of "low coolant" was faulty, when it wasn't...

I'm still trying to find an oil leak on it. Other than that, and the faulty lower ball joint on the front right, it runs nicely.

Bought it off of my brother in law, when it died on him; turns out it just needed a new ignition switch.

The 4.3L v6 is the 190hp 384lb of tourque version rite? Those things are nice motors. In reality the 4.3L v is nothing but a choped 350, it even uses the same motor mount patern and distances. With the v6 it will smoke tires, but with a proper 350 it will melt pavement. Just my thoughts.Oh and I bet its going to be a fun project.

Yep - 4.3L V6 w/ 190Hp with a few extra mods maybe(vortech supercharger). I know all about the Chevy V6 and V8... my dad is a muscle car nut... plus I am too somewhat... but if we don't get a 4.3L V6... we are so getting a 350. an LS1 outta an SS Camaro, or maybe an Edelbrock crate engine. Donno yet, all depends on funds at the time and what we really come down to. still some time before we get taht far.

Get a junkyard 350 strip it down and build your own spec motor.

Have the block inspected for cracks by doing a sonogram on it.
Put in some forged pistons, polish the walls. Use a edelbrock intake manifold, an edelbrock fuel injection kit, large 2inch headers with polished and ported out valve's mated to a 5inch collector and true 2 inch strait pipe exaust with a zipper type mufler section and cat, just in case you wana quieten it up. With a nice cam and tuneup you can push about 450hp out of it and 500lb of tourque naturaly aspirated. Or with a roots type supercharger the skie is the limit. Word of advice though. If you plan on using forced induction on a car spec (like the camaro) 350 dont do it. Get a truck spec 350 (all cast iron block) and run forced induction on. The truck spec 350's have been known to last longer and give you better hp.

Only down side is that the truck spec 350's are heavier, but the tourque will get you there.

Also use a 9inch ford rear in true gear head fashion.

What kind of trany you plan on using? I would recomend the same trany used in the c6 vette as it would give you a real good streatability factor.

Also use a 9inch ford rear in true gear head fashion.

What kind of trany you plan on using? I would recomend the same trany used in the c6 vette as it would give you a real good streatability factor.
Sounds like you know yer schtuff. ^_^

May I recommend a Muncie four-on-the-floor with a Hurst QuickShifter?

Sounds like you got a plan for something ^_^ - But we are still undecided on what we wanna do with it. Its gonna be a daily driver/family car, nothing extreme, but with a little bit 'o performance, thats why we were looking at the 4.3L V6... small, but with the right parts, its got the umph we want. a 350 isn't outta the question yet. But if we did get one, it would be a stock(rebuilt by us) 350. Because a car that small with 400Hp isn't really needed. If we were to go all out with a fully built 350, forced induction is outta the question. Hi-comp is the way to go :D - and a Turbo400 auto would be used along with a built Coury rear end(Ford 9" - bout the only good thing Ford made). But like I said - its gonna be some time before we even get to the engine. Taking it all in strides.

Well if you want a fmaily oriented car with ump. Get the same junk 350, sonogram it and put in a mild cam raise compression but be carefull with high compression as high compression requires higher octane fuel. 10:1 would be more than suficient. Tune the injectors and this way you will get a family car with umph that will give you 20+mpg city and posibly 25 highway. Just remember to keep the motor rpm's low and try to tune for tourque more than hp. This way you got realy good power on tap. And also produce around 300hp and 400 or more lb of trourque.

Sorry for draging this thread so but I absolutely love muscle cars and that project if it was my own would make me not sleep at nite out of exitment.

Also if you implanting parts, the front suspension out of a late camaro or firebird will make it handle worlds better.

Now if I had the posibility now to build a car I would build it mutch this way.
Buy an ls7 427 7.0L motor
Have it scaned and picked out and polished.
Build a custom intake manifold and separate the two sides of the block in 4 and 4 fashion
strap on a high pressure fuel pump
lower the compression to about 9:1
put in very high flow injectors
Port out valves.
run two 15psi turbos with silencers on blow off valves (hate that sound)
convert it to dry sump
wild cam and titanium sleves
mate it to a 6 speed manual thats very high gered
Drop it in a 60's mustang
put in the forad rear or a vette rear.
Put in front suspension from vette upgraded to race spec.
put in 18point or more roll cage
apulsture the interior and put in two bucket seats along with a duble layer fuel cell.
reinfoce the chasi completly by welding plates.
Strip all the chrome off
paint it flat black
put some orange and red flames with blue tips on the front tire arches going to the doors.
put in some custom billet superwide treads (12inch front 14 rear)

After all that it should be a kidney shaking ride but fast as hell and 800 or more hp on tap aint bad for a car that copuld still be street legal.:)

What you listed above, for your "dream" V8 would be one hell of an engine and quite the shiny penny^_^ - but we wont wanna drop that much on just the motor.

As for the Suspension you mentioned, thats exactly what we were planing on doing.

Well, right now I currently drive a 2002 Chevy 4x4......

My dream car I want to build (and I've built a few) is a 1940 Willys, Tubbed, w/ a blown & fuel-injected Hemi that puts out between 1200-1500 horsepower.

Yeah......someday I will (can't right now as I just bought a big house about 3 months ago)...........heh

I'm a pretty big Mopar fan... but holy cow! That thing is huge! If I were to get a Hemi crate, it would have to be put into a '69 Charger ^_^

Hemi is nice

But not something that would make me wana buy a motor or a car with hemispherical pistons.

I would rather have a nicley forged piston in a motor that has flawless walls and a good set of rings.

BTw did you guys know that all 3 made hemi motors?

Yes ford made hemi motors (4cyl race engines for cart racing) very light and versatile.

and also chevy made hemi motors but it was nothing special compared to their original flat cylinder configs.

Hemi motors do make exelent top fuel motors though. In contrast the large motor on that page could probly be changed into a top fuel motor producing in eces of 5000hp or 7000hp or more if your realy good at building motors.

Good luck on your project 2JSC, Wish you luck.

Thanks

4 on the floor and the hurst would be sweet for nostalgia reasons but modern transmissions are far better and more streatable. The older transmissions are kick prone and will probly chirp the weels in every gear witch would be a nono for street use.

I once saw a older video of the ramchargers drag racing with a hurst trany and man they realy had to be quick with them.

Dam I miss muscle cars. I especialy miss people driving them around. Most people buy them and garage them for long periods of time to only sell at higher prices lader on. I think cars should be driven no matter what they are worth.

yes I sound like im 60 years old born in the 60's but I am not. Born in 83 tyvm

Most every car has a 'hemi'spherical desig now days... even all the japanese cars are mostly hemi's. My nieghbor Miata is a 1.8L hemi  - and even though Chevy and Ford made Hemi's, it was Dodge that capitalized on the name for thier "muscle cars" - the only ones with the Hp were advertised as "With a Hemi ###".

Thanks - hope to have fun restoring that little thing^_^

Thanks - hope to have fun restoring that little thing^_^ Actualy the modern cars of today have semi hemispherical designs for the sake of compression etc. But a true hemispherical design consists of a flat ring with a half sphere on it. The miata your neighbor has im willing to bet has valve indentations on it etc. Thats because manufacturers dont make completly hemispherical cylinder heads. The early hemis were somewhat diferent.

The thing that put the HEMI name on the map was that dodge managed to squese out monster tourque out of those motors and the tourque band was flater on those motors than other motors of the day in stock form.

btw I found a crate 350 motor from gm perfomance for a decent price. http://www.gmpartsdepot.com/store/product1.aspx?SID=2&Product_ID=1294&Category_ID=63
1600bux for a crate isnt bad.

I also saw a fiew 4.3L v6 there and I think the 350 motor is the best bang for the buck they have.

enjoy.
