New Project CAR Pontiac STAR CHIEF 1960
still runs!!! still has AC...abit low on freon though. it was sitting in south dakota for years. i got it from my in-laws. they said it was just sitting around...so...i gladly acceoted a FREEBE!
so, where should i take this? i dont have too much under my belt concerning restoring cars. however i do know how to work on them mechanically. i dont have a "American Hotrod" budget, but i have been saving a fair amount, and part of my Army re-enlistment bonus is going toward it.
well here are the pics...grabnted its not much, but almost no chassis or undercarraige rust. it needs a shit load of interior, but everything still functions. mostly cosmetic. i will need to tear down the engine and such to clean and service...things sitting this long have tendencies to wear a car more than driving.

Hal that will be a beautiful car when you are done with it, good luck with that. Are you looking to do a full original restoration or do a more custom touch on it?

Here's the story: http://www.hotrodscustomstuff.com/MintJulep-05.html
Since you have a four door... I would suicide the doors, shave the handles and use electric door poppers. Frameless side windows, anyone? I love the old '60's big cars turned into mild customs.
Could be fun... :thumb:

Suicide doors - doors that are hinged at the rear rather than the front.
Try Googling it.

Its a great custom trick that probably started by copying the '60 Lincoln Continentals... especially when the handles are shaved, because it makes them look less like four doors and show real well when the whole side of the car opens up... :thumb:

Wow! that's a hell of a nice find for a backyard freebie... and it RUNS which is amazing. I'm looking forward to WHATEVER you do with it.
Regarding the Army bit... Unit? where you last stationed?

It looks like it's still in (relatively) nice shape!
I'm not much for the extensive mods; I prefer the nostalgic "functionality" and looks.

I thought it might've been the barrel of that bloody big gun - thought you'd snuck one out in your pocket /jk ^_^
Before anyone starts, I know all about weapons and ammo being checked back in, firing range rules and all that.
